Roto question…

Okay.. Hello to all… I have a rotoscope question when it comes to working in the industry… Apparently i heard from a few sources that as a Roto Artist.. you are supposed to Rotoscope anything( character or any other object) and then give the matte to the compositor… Now the thing that i heard is that you are not allowed to give the feather or the matte blur settings as people said that the compositor would fix it by himself.. Is that true???
If so.. what about shots that have so much motion blur… It is possible to rotoscope to a certain extent and then experiment with the feather..If you are not allowed to touch the feather settings it would be hard to deal with motion blur shots wouldnt it.. How exactly does this process work??

Houdini problem

Hi,
I have just started learning Houdini & facing a problem with the software. It works fine until i minimize the window & when i maximize it again the Houdini interface becomes black & doesn’t even close I have to go to the task manager to close it. This happens everytime I try to close a file & open a new file also.

Anyone having a solution for this do let me know.

Thanks.

Good vfx training centers

Hi friends,

This thread is to help my friend rijo. He knows combustion and maya very well. Now he want to specialize in compositing more. He want to built a good carrier in vfx. So please tell me some good vfx advanced training centers in india and abroad.

match texture with live footage.

hello,

I’m trying to add some CG elments in a live footage. I’ve modeled objects in maya and have to give texture for those objects. Is it possible to use the texture from the footage? or I should create my own texture and match the object with the footage quality.

Please share your valuable experience on this work.

Cheers,

35mm adapter problem

Hi guys,

I’ve got a problem on a project where I’m asked to fix some shots where the 35 mm adapter wasn’t running. The problem isn’t the depth of field but more the overlaying "grain" pattern of the adapter… it looks like if it’s floating on top of the picture…

Does anyone have a solution to fix that? … I’m using Nuke

Here is the clip where it’s hard to see due to upload compression but in the bright areas on the face it’s still visible

Thanks beforehand 🙂

Any De Ageing/wrinkle removal tips?

I’m working on an extreme closeup shot (in nuke) where the talent has a bit too many wrinkles, pores etc. Now I come from a photoshop airbrushing background so fixing up an individual frame is easy, it gets hard when there is movement involved. Here’s what I’ve tried:

-Tracking certain areas of the face and applying the rotopaint tracked to those offending areas, the problem is the face moves in a very elastic way (as she looks from left to right) so 2 point, even 4 point tracking doesn’t look right. (Plus tracking features is hard when she’s moving her head).

-Tried separating and bluring just the red channel to soften her skin, however as it is a closeup, her whole face looks a little out of focus now.

Any other tips, tricks, ideas on how to approach this?

I tried a dewrinkler gizmo but it seems to be taking the approach I used by bluring out the red channel, any other ideas?

Cheers,

Is a Compositors life a happy one?

Obviously it is, but after speaking to some of the Compositors on here, Radders, Tommy138, quety101, boomji amongst others, I’m starting to realise that the VFX pipeline is broken into far smaller segments that I thought. Everything is very specialised.

Being creative people, do you wish you had a little more input and involvement in tasks previous to yours? Even if it is working to someone else’s vision of style or design.

I know that Compositors make everything look good and bring it all together, which I imagine to be very satisfying, but do you ever wish you did some of the modelling, lighting, texturing, animation and so on?

I’m just trying to gage if I want to work for a large or small company.

The question came into my head, so I thought I’d ask – just curious I suppose.

Need some advice – Wire Removal in Nuke

I’m working on a freelance project so apparently I can’t post any images from the film.

The shot has a camera move and the wire moves a lot so it was hard to get one image remove the wire and use it as a mask after… There are 2 guys in the elevator in the shot.

What would be a good way to do such a shot? I’m new to wire removal and I’m very lost. If needed I can provide more info about the shot.

Vfx Pipeline

Hello folks,

I’m a beginner, I would like to do an open ground explosion in a live footage. Someone please explain me what are the steps involved in this.

Like footage selection, tracking, compositing. In what order should I do this work? Please some leave your comments.

P.S I will create the explosion and shattering in Houdini. I will use Nuke to composite.
