Ok, new to VFX here. Got 2 questions on this video on how the effects were done.

1. Did they use a green/blue screen for background set?
2. What compositing programme did they use?

Hey.Hows it goin?Im new to this website and these forums. I am an animation and visual fx major at a school in the San Fransisco Bay Area (California) . In about one year from now, I will have my bachelors degree as well as all the experience that we all know is more important than that piece of paper..So anyway..I moved here from the upper East Coast for school in 09′. I love it here, but i can’t help but rack my brain about all the haunting stories I’m constantly told by mostly everyone i know about how hard it is to even legitimately get your foot in the door here and on my way to earning decent income. My school takes us through much of the pipeline starting with fine arts and concepting classes and then moving on to hard surface/organic modeling, texturing and lighting, compositing, animation, rigging, dynamics, motion capture, and a bit of scripting as well.Programs taught include Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, and Nuke, among a few other more slightly obscure ones) I know that the biggest vfx studios in the country are here, but i sometimes wonder if in some way it would be easier for me to get started back east. Does anyone know what the job market is like for any one of the trades listed that I’m learning on the east coast compared to the west? I work hard and still plan to try my hardest out here to get the best I can…but I can’t help but wonder about moving back east after i graduate sometimes..if only just to get started. I have an older buddy at school(i’m 22 btw) who tells me that the stuff we’re learning is more advanced than a lot of digital arts schools on the east, since we’re so well linked with faculty from pixar and others closeby and the curriculums here get revamped so often. Don’t get me wrong, I know theres excellent schools everywhere, but could somebody give me their two cents? I just hear so much about Bay Area and LA competition, it sometimes gets really unsettling.Especially for someone still getting their feet wet..

Hello, I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but I was wondering if anyone here has attended SCAD in Savannah for production design or any of their graduate programs?

I am graduating from Drexel in Philadelphia with an accredited bachelors in architecture and i want to attend SCAD in 2012 for MA in production design but I am worried about my GPA. I started undergrad in engineering, and did not do very well so I do not have a very good GPA….it is under a 2.5. With that being said my architecture portfolio is outstanding and I have lots of time to add to it since I wont be applying until December or January.

Hi everybody. I’m an art student and animator enthusiast. Recently I been seduced by VFXs wich is a new world for me . This month I been learning the basics of digital composition with Fusion, for props modeling and some effects I use Maya mostly. Before begin, I did a lot of research of softwares and methods, one especially interested me: Softimage, specifically the ICE System and of course the impressive LOGOA, ¿what is the current position of this software in the field, worth learning it?
