STOPCYCLE

made by benjamin ducroz www.ducroz.com STOPCYCLE is a series of 25 small scale sculptures, which as an ensemble create a seamless 25 frame animated loop. the work explores changes of form, and sound using repetition through time.  the sculptures shapes are organic and layered in form, much like topographical maps.  the forms are descriptions of anatomical regions, as well as being formal experiments in geometry and motion.  their shapes are infinitely cycling, beginning anew once they end – they can be interpreted as tangible, shapeshifting clocks. the 25 frame loop is based on a procedural texture named ‘Perlin noise’. Perlin noise is a computer generated visual effect developed by Ken Perlin in the 1980’s. it is a gradient noise used by visual effects artists to increase the appearance of realism in computer graphics. it is a fractal landscape exhibiting some form of statistical self-similarity to natural phenomena. the technique is commonly used in computer generated graphics to create the effect of randomness in textures and landscapes. STOPCYCLE employs these techniques and presents them physically utilising the mediums of sculpture and stopframe animation.

Texas Six

The northwest Texas towns of Turkey and Crowell are separated by about 60 miles as the crow flies; they’re places you’re most likely to stumble upon only if taking a few wrong turns between Wichita Falls and Lubbock, or Amarillo. But in December of 2013, the two tiny towns became leading actors in the final acts of the University Interscholastic League’s six-man football season, breaking through to meet in the semi-finals of a 32-team playoff bracket. Developed in the 1930s to give smaller high schools an opportunity at top-level competition, six-man thrives in the rural districts of a few football-crazy states—nowhere more prevalently than in Texas. Filmmaker Nicholas Strini followed the strands of the Lone Star’s deep gridiron tradition to its incredible small-scale local versions, where the populations may be dwindling, but passions remain as grand as the horizon.

Audax Alpine Classic

Earlier this year I worked with cycling club Audax Australia to capture a tilt-shift time-lapse of their event the Alpine Classic. Starting in the town of Bright 2,200 cyclists tackled several different courses of up to 250km which included ascents of Mount Buffalo, Mount Hotham, Falls Creek and Tawonga Gap. In my four days of shooting I covered nearly 2,000km through the Victorian High Country capturing cyclists, landscapes and the local towns. The film is shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with 17-40mm f/4L, 24-105mm f/4L and 70-300mm f/4-5.6 as well as the Emotimo TB3 Black motion control head. Some aerial footage was captured using a DJI Phantom with H3-2D gimbal and GoPro Hero3+ Black shooting 2.7K Protunes. Images were processed in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and LRTimelapse, while the film was edited in Premiere Pro and After Effects. The soundtrack and audio mix was produced by Tom Day https://soundcloud.com/tomday

Spirit of the Blood Moon

Guarantee this is not your typical time-lapse! Did you miss the blood moon? No worries. Enjoy the whole thing in under 60 seconds! TIP: Volume up on this one. On April 14, 2014, just before 11pm PST, the first of four lunar eclipses took shape in what is called a “tetrad” of events. These lunar eclipses will occur in six month intervals until September 28, 2015. If you happen to miss these beautiful displays, you’ll be on your porch until 2032. Behind the Scenes of 'Living Moments – Lumia Arc of Wonder' #LumiaMoments

Microsoft and renowned filmmaker Paul Trillo joined forces to create a smartphone system that allows users to control multiple Nokia Lumia 1020 devices wirelessly and simultaneously. Designed for the Windows 8 mobile platform, the “bullet effect” is a technical first on a mobile device, offering 100% mobility.

After connecting 50 Nokia Lumia devices, a separate, designated Surface tablet was used as a remote control, creating the “Lumia Arc of Wonder”. The result reveals the phones’ incredible capabilities for striking, vivid imagery, whilst pushing the boundaries of photography and technology.
