MAJOR STOKE-AGE FOR STOKED.

thumbnailer.php

Last night We Make It Good attended “Stoked on Spring,” the annual art auction to benefit Stoked Mentoring.  The event was held at Milk Gallery in New York with works by Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and some NY local artists. Stoked is a non-profit organization who’s mission is to help inner city kids develop opportunities, knowledge and experience through sports action mentoring. A good cause, free drinks and a great excuse to get our hands on this Anthony Burrill print has got us stoked on Stoked.

KIMMEL’S SCREENTESTS.

adamkimmel-747785

Adam Kimmel’s lookbook for Fall / Winter 2009 puts Factory alum Gerard Malanga behind the lens to recreate Warhol’s famously awkward screentests from so many decades ago. Stacked from top to bottom with familiar and talented faces, all methods of artistic expression get screentime as Kunle Martins, Matthew Barney, Francesco Clemente, and Glenn O’Brien – to name a few – sit on the hot seat in heavily shadowed awkwardness. Oh yeah, and the clothes are pretty awesome too. Check em out HERE.

More Art: Francesco Clemente @ Dietch!

ahistoryoftheheart_poster

It’s that time of month for art openings and all that, so we decided to follow up on yesterday’s post about Banks Violette with a write up on another show that we are extremely excited about: Francesco Clemente @ Dietch Projects! The show opens tomorrow and will no doubt provide a glimpse into the beautiful mind that has collaborated with everyone from Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat to Alfonso Cuaron and Robert DeNiro (kind of).

13 Most Beautiful

ishot-12

Andy Warhol made hundreds of black and white silent films of Factory guests. Dean Warham and Britta Phillips resurected these gems and set a select few (13) screen tests to music – out now DVD.  13 Most Beautiful . . . Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests is a great time capsule that really coveys the spirit of t 60’s art/music/celebrity aesthetic.

BMW ART CARS @ GRAND CENTRAL

dsc_0305

We checked out the BMW Art Car exhibit this weekend at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central. The giant ramp with day glo tire tracks was a little whatevs but the 4 cars on display from Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, and Robert Rauschenberg are giant masterpieces of speed, paint, and commerce. Well worth the trip to see the video that tells the story, as much as it is to see the cars themselves.

Check out this video of Andy Warhol painting the BMW M1 and a synopsis of the whole art car project itself: Click here to view the embedded video.
