After the buzz of Spider-Man’s appearance in the recent Civil War feature, the Marvel superhero has been most spoken about. So much so that the fan following and aura of the hero has already led to the creation of a whole new ‘Spider Man universe’. As we know, Spider-Man: Homecoming is already in production and will hit theatres next summer.
But, it has been speculated that Sony has far more plans for this franchise. There have been rumours that a ‘Silver Sable’ movie could be one venture to enhance the Spider-Man universe.
Silver Sable is a mercenary who hunts war criminals. She’s most commonly associated with Spider-Man, having debuted in an 1985 issue of his title — hence why Sony, not Marvel Studios, has the rights. She’s an anti hero who is extraordinary skilled as a fighter but has no actual superpowers (like Black Widow or the Punisher). Silver Sable is a little edgier than your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, so she could add a different flavour to his corner of the Marvel universe.
Jeff Sneider recently stated that Sony was courting screenwriter Abi Morgan(Shame) to pen a movie about the Marvel antiheroine. Also, Sony may want to go ahead with the Silver Sable movie. However, these are just speculations as Sony and Marvel need to decide the creative charge and their future plans for the franchise.
As of now, Marvel and Sony are collaborating on Spider-Man: Homecoming, with both studios repeatedly making it clear that the former is leading the creative charge on the rebooted franchise.
