‘How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’ records big openings in Australia and New Zealand
Posted in: AnimationDreamWorks Animation’s hit franchise How To Train Your Dragon returns for a third run at the box-office this month with The Hidden World, and the franchise has already recorded massive openings in the Australian and New Zealand theatres on opening day.
Raking in $1.5 million on the opening day across 286 locations in Australia, the movie has already surpassed Shrek 2 as the biggest ever opening by a DreamWorks production and also the third-biggest opening of all-time. Theatres are abuzz with its screenings so much so that it currently ranks first in the domestic market, ahead of some big-budget release such as DC’s Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns.
In New Zealand, The Hidden World garnered $173,000 from 90 locations to register the third biggest opening day collections by an animation film in the region and DreamWorks Animation’s second-biggest. And for the record, the figures are thrice as much as what its prequel How To Train Your Dragon 2 managed to generate on its opening day in 2014.
Directed by Dean Deblois, The Hidden World will be released across 48 international markets including Mexico, Brazil, Italy, the UK, Germany, France and Ireland, before it’s premier in the North Americas on 22 February 2019.
India release of the movie is slated on 1 March 2019.
