Film Sector to get just over Rs 140 crore in current year in MIB Annual Plan

A sum of Rs 5.1 crore has been set aside in the current year for setting up a Centre of Excellence for Animation, Gaming and VFX.

The Annual Plan for 2016-17 of the Information and Broadcasting has put aside Rs 141.48 crore for the film sector, including Rs three crore for the north east. This includes Rs 112.79 crore for the new schemes and the balance for the ongoing schemes.

The Centre of Excellence for Animation, Gaming and VFX is expected to come up in the film city in Goregaon in Mumbai but may later have wings in other cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore, according to I and B Ministry sources. The current budget for centre for this year is only for the main secretariat.

A budget of only Rs One lakh has been kept aside in the Annual Plan for anti-piracy.

A sum of Rs 30 crore has been set aside for the National Film Heritage Mission during the current year. The National Film Archives of India (NFAI) gets Rs two crore for acquisition of films and film material.

A budget of Rs One crore has been set aside for webcasting of the Archives of the Films Division. A sum of Rs 16 crore has been set aside for production of films and documentaries in various Indian languages during the year, including Rs one crore for the north east.

A sum of Rs 20 crore including Rs two crore for the north east has been set aside for promotion of Indian cinema through film festivals and film markets in India and abroad.

Grant-in-Aid to FTII – Upgradation and Modernisation of the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune gets Rs 20 crore while the Satyajit Ray Film and TV Institute (SRFTII)  in Kolkata gets Rs seven crore for infrastructure development.

The National Museum of Cinema coming up in the complex of the Films Division in Mumbai gets Rs 28.69 crore, while Rs four crore will go to Upgradation, modernisation and expansion of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and certification process and Rs One crore for development of the Sirifort Auditorium complex in Delhi.
