‘Discover yourself to discover the world’. The greatest discovery lies in fighting all odds and crossing the limits to go beyond the possibilities in order to achieve your goal. Your identity defines you and your mission in life helps you find that definition.
Disney’s upcoming animated feature Moana is all about discovering yourself and your identity. The first teaser features the South Pacific coast with the demi-god Maui voiced by Dwayne Johnson and the adventurous navigator Moana voiced by Hawaiian teen Auli’i Cravalho.
Sometimes, impressing a girl might turn out to be a task! And, Maui tries a few stunts and moves to impress Moana but to no avail. Despite of his flips, jumps and tricks with his fish hook, Moana reacts with a blank yet confused look.
The teaser displays few strings of the plot like the demi-god possessing the ability to change forms and probably Moana’s childhood into the vast blue ocean. Also, she seems to be a skilled navigator or rather a sea-woman taking charge of the clan.
Animation looks neat and quite realistic as the ocean, island and wild habitat are evidently surreal. The hair of both Maui and Moana grab the attention as it seems to be a great work of simulation. Maui’s face is a replica of Dwayne Johnson and quite predominantly looks like the wrestler turned actor too.
Disney has definitely tried a unique kind of animation for this teaser trailer with the art of drawing and stop motion animation at the start to introduce Maui. Directed by veterans like John Muster and Ron Clements and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Moana seems to be a profound work of animation and distinct storytelling.
The film portrays a culture and traditional habitat of the South Pacific islands with all the tattoos covering the entire body and typical natural attire. The film seems to be a self discovery for both Moana and Maui in the quest of searching Moana’s family and Maui’s long lost personality. Distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, Moana hits theatres on 23 November, 2016. The below poster for the film was released last week.
