Salman Khan-starrer Bharat spans 71 years of Indian since Independence, opening against the backdrop of Jawaharlal Nehru’s landmark speech “Tryst with Destiny”.
“People think that a middle-class old man must have had an arid life but my youth was as colourful as it gets” Khan’s Bharat ponders in the trailer that dropped on Monday.
The trailer gives a glimpse of a young Bharat as a moto-bike stuntman, then an employee at an oil-mining company, and later, a ship’s captain. Along the way, Bharat falls for Katrina Kaif. The trailer deals with the rough times for Bharat and his family and a childhood sundered by the partition of India in 1947.
The cast includes Sunil Grover as Bharat’s friend and Jackie Shroff as his father. The film also features Sonali Kulkarni, Disha Patani, Shashank Arora and Nora Fatehi in supporting roles. The producers are Salman Khan Films, Reel Life Productions and T-Series.
Bharat is an official remake of the 2014 South Korean blockbuster Ode to My Father, which traces the history of the country through one man’s experiences. Zafar and Varun Sharma have adapted Su-jin Park’s original screenplay.
The film is slated to hit the screens on Eid this year, on 5 June 2019.
