Anime fans from the Kolkata, India, and members of Kolkata Anime Club organised a virtual anime discussion meet few days back. Independent researchers Senjuti Ghosh and Sujata Raychaudhuri hosted the meet on the Google Meet service.
The discussion was divided into four segments:
- The definition of anime
- Miyazaki and the global impact of anime
- Manga and its relationship with anime
- How anime affects fans
The local anime clubs such as the Kolkata Anime Club, Guwahati Anime Club, and Mumbai Anime Club have suspended monthly club meets due to covid-19 pandemic. But the enthusiastic members of the clubs continue to interact on social media platforms and video chat services.
The Kolkata Anime Club is a group by the fans and for the fans of anime/manga and all things related. It keeps organising various events, where there are discussion and talks about anime, exciting quizes to test your fandom, cosplay masquerade and other games to keep it rolling. The club has grown into a large family of over 300 members, all drawn together by their love for anime.
In India the anime are targeted for children, but the fanbase can be seen growing with the many series popping up on various OTT platforms. Anime fans think that the topic teaches real life skills like hardship, friendship, determination, courage, time management, teamwork, and helps improves the creativity.
