‘Aladdin’: Disney drops another trailer and this time it looks magical

Recently Disney released the official trailer for the forthcoming live-action reprisal of Aladdin, which came on the heels of the teaser that received an ambivalent response.

However, the new trailer looks much more elaborate and meaty to gauge the extent of the imagery which does look pretty promising in the trailer.

Aladdin

Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie, stars Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Frank Welker will return to voice Abu, Jafar will be played by Marwen Kenzari, Naomi Scott plays Princess Jasmine and Mena Massoud plays Aladdin.

The trailer opens almost like the original 1992 animated feature—with the titular street rat (a bright-eyed Mena Massoud) running through the streets of Agrabah, escaping a penalty after a bit of light theft (with Abu on his shoulder, of course). From there, he gets pushed into a ruse by the villainous Jafar, tasked with going into the Cave of Wonders and procuring an old lamp. Aladdin finds the lamp, but, in pure street-rat fashion, keeps it for himself.

A first-look at Will Smith in character as a very blue Genie received some flak but scenes in the new trailer point at dynamic nature of his appearance throughout the film.

It also appears that the film will feature some of the original movie’s iconic songs like A Whole New World, which won the Grammy Award for song of the year, the first Disney song to ever win that category. The song also won an Oscar.

Aladdin hit the theatres across the world on 24 May 2019.
