Holy Cow Productions’ ‘Mystic Pillars’ will launch in Android and PC by January

Bangalore based Holy Cow productions is aiming  to launch their game Mystic Pillars on PC by January 2020 and on android pretty soon. The game is already available to play on iOS Premium ($3.99 Tier) and has received 4.7 rating already at the apple store.

The game is set in Ancient India which has an original blend of intriguing puzzles and an immersive storyline as the USP. In conversation with AnimationXpress Holy Cow Productions director of game development Goutham Dindukurthi said that “We are hard at work to bring the game out on the other platforms – Steam on PC and Android as well. We are planning to roll out the android version December 2019 expectedly considering the good response on the iOS launch and planning to roll out the game on PC by second week of January 2020 possibly. Mystic Pillars is currently available for wishlist on steam.”

The player plays the role of a traveller whose journey across the world landed in the kingdom of Zampi. The task for the players is to somehow destroy the pillars by solving the puzzle which are blocking water and making the prosperous Zampi under drought plaguing.  The story unfolds when the player meets other character games who share the mystry behind Zampi’s downfall.  From the words of the developer the animated cut scenes reveal the storyline which is quite addictive in nature.

The PC version will have added features,as he expressed “for the PC version, we will be adding full controller support as well as high quality textures to bring out the best experience for players!”

As the storyline progresses the puzzles become more interesting and challenging to solve with different configurations. The game supports 20+ in game languages which includes English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Portuguese EU, Polish, Turkish, Portuguese BR, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Arabic, Catalan, Hebrew for interface and subtitle.

Mystic Pillars is the first Indian story-based puzzle game with support for 20+ languages (including 4 Indian languages) featuring animated cut scenes with voice over in Kannada (native language of Bangalore, India) and English. It is an original blend of intriguing puzzles and an immersive storyline, providing the player with a unique gameplay experience,” he added.

The idea of the game generated when their team were discussing on creating a game on some Indian board games. One of the games which they zeroed on was Ali Guli Mane or Chenne Mane (in Kannada). This was similar to a popular board game, Mancala across the world. “Initially, the game was called Sort as it was basically sorting of seeds in a specific way to solve the puzzle. A major deviation from Ali Guli Mane which we considered was not to restrict ourselves with just the linear form and the core gameplay rules for the puzzles.”

The hand drawn colourful 2D artwork reveals about South Indian culture and contains a couple of scenes of war which can include glimpses of blood and death. The game includes 100 simple and unique logical puzzles and they “started creating puzzles in various forms including circular, cubical, alphabet etc and eventually moved quite far away the actual board game. Once we had created all the puzzles, we thought of creating a unique experience. We decided to intertwine the puzzle game experience with an original story based in Ancient India. The story gives you a glimpse into the rich South Indian culture and its tradition.”

The system requirements to roll the game in the PC are as follows:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 7 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E6750 (2 * 2660) or equivalent / AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ (2 * 2600) or equivalent

  • Graphics: Geforce GT 430 (1024 MB) / Radeon HD 5570 (1024 MB)

India’s OTT market pacing fast to be among top global OTT markets

India’s OTT market is growing with leaps and bounds with increasing number of players and content that’s keeping the audience video hooked.

According to Kantar’s report on OTT services, India is soon going to hold  prominent place among the top global OTT markets. The report brings together learnings from TGI, WAM and a study done among 5000+ OTT users.

It covers urban audience as well as tier two and three for the 15 – 55 age demographic. The report suggests that the video OTT market in India, which primarily comprises content streaming services, is likely to be ranked among the top 10 markets globally in the very near future.

Important observations are :

  • Usership numbers for OTT and players using the Web Audience Measurement Panel.
  • Understanding OTT usership behaviour and preferences using the custom study among OTT users .
  • Covers usership information in terms of frequency , time spent , content preferred, drivers and barriers for using the platform/players, pain points while using the platform.
  • Profiling cross media information from TGI : Answering the five-W question on OTT – what is the detailed profile of OTT users, free vs. paid users, brand users.
  • Understanding the attitude and behaviour of OTT/players from TGI.
  • Understanding their lifestyle and purchase habits.
  • Cross media habits : Overlap between television and OTT .
  • Extent of overlap, profile of dual users, differences in viewership etc.

Kantar MD and chief strategy officer Kantar South Asia Hemant Mehta said, “In the last two years, the rise of OTT as a medium of entertainment has been anything but stupendous! Our study shows that with older age groups (35+ years), women and consumers from lower social classes are flocking to OTT platforms, and the medium is now truly becoming a mass medium. Aiding this move is the wide range and choice of content being made available in the local languages. Today, OTT consumption is redefining prime time and the role of television at home, as the bulk of viewing on OTT platforms is now taking place at home.”

In a fiercely competitive market of 30 existing players, the dominant players include Disney’s Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, Alt Balaji, MX Player, Eros Now, Viacom18’s Voot and Sony LIV. A recent PwC report projects the Indian OTT market value to reach $1.6 billion by 2023.

K Madhavan is Star and Disney India’s new country manager

K Madhavan

K Madhavan, noted media veteran has been named as the country head of Star and Disney India, an executive from the company announced today.

Serving as Star India South Business MD, Madhavan will join his new role from 1 January, taking over from Sanjay Gupta who joined Google India as its new country manager and vice-president of sales and operations.

Prior to this, Madhavan served as managing director of Asianet Communications and vice-president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation. He will directly report to Walt Disney Company APAC, chairman and Star-Disney India president Uday Shankar.

The rejig will also see Shankar directly overlooking Hotstar, pitting him against former colleagues Gupta and Ajit Mohan, who joined Facebook. In an internal note to employees, Shankar said: “For the time being, I shall have a direct oversight on Hotstar leadership will work directly with me.”

Both Gupta and Mohan have worked on the Hotstar business while at Star. Mohan was the chief executive officer of Hotstar till the end of 2018, reporting directly to Gupta, who was elevated to country manager of Star and Disney in April. He was managing director of Star India earlier.

Madhavan will now oversee all television operations for the broadcaster, including Hindi and regional languages, as part of his new role. “Star is seeking continuity with the elevation of Madhavan. He is a seasoned hand, who’s been in the system for long,” said a media industry executive, who knows Madhavan well.

Madhavan might have to face challenges, as handling national television operations will not be easy at a time when the broadcasting market in India is heading towards a consolidation. Sony Pictures Network is talking to Mukesh Ambani’s Network18 Media & Investments for a possible stake buy. Some other options on the table include a merger of the entertainment businesses of Sony and Network18. The latter has a 51 per cent stake in Viacom18, the joint venture that runs the Colors entertainment channel.

The country is in anticipation of the arrival of Disney+ through Hotstar. The enriching library of Disney including new original content will be available in India through the Star owned streaming service. Hotstar has registered over 400 million downloads in 2019, with twice the number of installs as last year and 555 installs per minute according to India Watch Report 2019, a study of online video consumption behaviour and trends released by the service this Tuesday.

Video consumption has tripled since 2018, with the number of video viewers increasing 1.5 times and the time spent per viewer doubling. Hotstar, meanwhile, is the largest over-the-top (OTT) platform in India, with 200 million subscribers. Lately, Hotstar crossed 400 million downloads this year, with the number expected to grow as the OTT player increasing sports and entertainment content.

Spider-Man possibly to play a part in ‘Captain Marvel 2’

Spider-Man will again play a crucial part in the MCU after Spider-Man 3. After a lot of discussion between Marvel Studios and Sony on how they will share the development of the webbed superhero, there might be a possibility of Spidey appearing in Captain Marvel 2. Meanwhile, standalone adventure film for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will arrive in summer 2021.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has performed exceedingly well over the past years with blockbuster movies especially Avengers franchise. It was mainly because Marvel always had interconnected stories planned years in advance.

As reports suggest, Kevin Feige might use Spider-Man to be a key figure in the next big crossover, Captain Marvel 2, which would be one of the best crossovers! Daniel RPK, a trusted insider who took to his Twitter handle last month and shared the news.

This news is yet to be confirmed by any official entity. But RPK has been one of the best track records in the industry when it comes to scoops. We’re just keeping our fingers crossed and hopes high!
