ABAI and Unity join hands to exclusively bring advanced content creation courses at Bengaluru’s “Center of Excellence”

Karnataka has been pushing for advancements in the AVGC sector for some time now. Government of Karnataka, under the ministry of information technology has set up the AVGC Centre of Excellence (CoE) in association with ABAI, the organisation leading the charge of the state’s AVGC ecosystem.

Apart from organising India’s largest AVGC conglomeration, GAFX, ABAI has also been proactively working towards the smooth running of the CoE.

Earlier this year it was announced that the CoE will boast of country’s first ever advanced motion capture system for media and entertainment which will be open for small and medium studios, freelance artists to create their projects, this art infrastructure will be at par with any best international facility.

Now it has been announced that ABAI will be joining forces with Unity for the launch of advanced courses in Film, Animation & Cinematics at the Finishing School at the AVGC CoE.

Unity has been making waves in the space of content creation and has pushed the boundaries on how the industry perceives working on projects real-time. With real-time rendering, the productions times have drastically shrinked and thanks to its mission-control UX, decisions are much smoother at pace. The collaboration should further strengthen the facilities at the CoE, placing it at a formidable position in the country’s AVGC ladder.

Says ABAI Secretary B.S. Srinivas, “The future of filmmaking is real-time. Unity Developers are the largest community of real-time creators & that is why students choose to learn Unity more than any other real-time platform. Keeping this in mind, Unity is launching for the first time in India advanced courses in Film, Animation & Cinematics in exclusive collaboration with the Finishing School at the AVGC Centre of Excellence built by ABAI with the support of Department of IT/BT, GoK. ABAI will soon introduce various advanced courses in real time film making techniques for India with access to mocap studios and facial mocap suits. We at ABAI are proud of this exclusive tieup with Unity & look forward to contribute in high level skilling initiatives  for the country’s AVGC sector.”

The project will be flagged off on 16 September, 2019.

ABAI also plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for real-time film making techniques in the country which will have access to motion capture studios and facial motion capture suits.

“We at ABAI are committed to usher in emerging technologies in order to enable Indian talent and IPs to innovate with the latest tools and technologies. Unity’s ability to simplify digital arts creation through features and functionality is what artists need and will help scale Indian industry in animation, games, VFX, AR and VR.” added ABAI president and Technicolor India country head Biren Ghose.

The AVGC sector of the country is surging forward rapidly and is only expected to grow further. Integration of the latest techniques and methods to the CoE is likely to act instrumental to the future of India’s AVGC scene.

Date of Dragon Ball Super’s Finale announced

Even though the Dragon Ball Super anime concluded in Japan quite some time ago, the English dubbed version currently airing on Cartoon Network’s Toonami programming block has continued on.

With the finale of Dragon Ball right around the corner, the network has given us a date as to when the Dragon Ball Super finale will come to an end. Who will  emerge victorious at the end of the battle royale and which universe will manage to trounce all others for the championship?

Twitter Source Toonami Squad managed to share that the upcoming finale for Dragon Ball Super will air on October 5th, promising to pack a bow on the long running Tournament arc that saw a number of combatants from Universe Seven compete with a number of different realities to be the last men standing:

LINEUP NEWS: #DragonBallSuper’s finale will air on 5 October followed by back to back episodes of #DrStone#Toonami pic.twitter.com/iBn72aVoQC

— Toonami Squad (@ToonamiSquad) September 12, 2019

On the final episode of Dragon Ball Super, Jiren is the only combatant outside of Universe Seven that remains, facing off against Goku, Vegeta, Android 17, and an unconscious Freeza. In a bid to take down the grey juggernaut, 17 performed a self destruct, leaving everything to an exhausted Goku and Vegeta.

Exciting thing about this most recent episode on Toonami is that we now are not only aware of who Jiren is and what his motivations are for not only joining the Tournament of Power but also why he has scaled such insane levels of strength. Tracking the torments he expereinced as a child and the loss of his master, the strongest being in Universe Eleven is clearly dominating the competition as has been the case throughout most of the Tournament of Power!

Dragon Ball Super currently airs its English dub on Adult Swim during the Toonami programming block on Saturday evenings, and is also available to stream on Funimation and Amazon Video. The Japanese-language release of the series is complete, and available to stream on FunimationNOW and Crunchyroll.

Witness the life journey of Gautam Buddha in an immersive 360 degree experience

Commissioned by Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a remarkable view into the life of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha in a 360 degree space is being designed by Charuvi Design Labs (CDL). Through beautiful and permanent films for the upcoming museums at Sravasti (Uttar Pradesh) and Kapilavastu (on the India Nepal Border), the team plans to immerse the audience from all perspectives in this one of a kind experience.

CDL is currently conceptualising two 30-minute animated films to be exhibited and projected as part of the museums currently being constructed at Sravasti. This is the site where Buddha spent twenty-four rainy seasons at the Jetavan monastery, built by his disciple Sudatta Anathapindika and Kapilavastu which is deeply endowed with Buddha’s origins. It is believed that Buddha spent his first early years here before embarking on the long journey to enlightenment.

The films attempt to encapsulate the brief duration of Buddha’s exemplary life spent in both the places. The intent is to visually depict some of the important milestones in his life whilst parallelly showing the historical aspects of both the sites and the holistic connection to the life story of Buddha himself. Tremendous research was done supplemented with incredible documentation before proceeding to conceptualise the visuals.

The 360 projection space is a permanent installation at the museum and the content intends to soak the audience in spiritual journey aiding with historical facts. “We have primarily used a mix of pure 3D, motion graphics and an amalgamation with real photography, live shoots and drone shots. Considering it’s a 360 projection, we had to formulate the camera movement as per the surface area so that it feels seamless when viewed from any angel,” mentioned Charuvi Design Labs founder and director Charuvi Agarwal. During 3D production, the team used Unreal Engine and Maya for animating majority of the shots.

For both the films, music and audio constitute half the viewing experience. The sūtra-dhāra of the films takes one through the entire journey of Buddha, where one can experience a captivating monologue of Angulimaal. “We want the audience to step into a poetic rendition of the whole experience and all this and much more can be experienced under the soothing and sometimes dramatic musical score,” added Agarwal.

CDL was in the news years back for the 25 feet sculpture of Hanuman, made of 26,000 bells, installed in New Delhi. This grand piece of art was made to promote CDL’s animated film Shri Hanuman Chalisa

Agrawal presented A Tour De Force for The Jayprakash Narayan Museum in Lucknow, where a praxinoscope titled Thali Bajao, attempts to recreate the flash in history. The installation makes one understand the physics and dynamics of constructing a large structure and also takes one on an emotional ride, recreating the historical impact of the protest and feel the deep rooted emotions attached to the movement.

CDL, with its unique concepts and breathtaking artwork is taking animation industry to another level. And, we just can’t wait to get enthralled by experiencing the life of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha in a 360 degree space!
