Toca Me Opening Titles 2018

TITLE DESIGN: MATERIA / www.materia.tv / instagram.com/materia.studio / facebook.com/materia.tv / SCORE / SOUND DESIGN: ECHOLAB /www.echolab.tv /instagram.com/echolab/ / facebook.com/EcholabAudio Ever-changing landscapes inspired by organic textures and surfaces. Surreal worlds created by processing live action scenes with CG techniques. To create morphing textures we captured slowly spreading color on even surfaces. All scenes were filmed with a RED Weapon and a macro lens in 8K. The analog source sequences were further taken as a base for generating the 3d structures by displacing and shading geometry inside 3d software. The score was composed by Gavin Little from ECHOLAB. Inspired by seismic and earth shifting movements, he created geological seeming sounds. By burying contact microphones underground in soil and recording vibrations, he captured breathtaking, natural sounds of shifting earth and grinding rocks. For the score he used a hybrid of organic and digital sounds, a musical progression that matched the swell of the movements from texture to texture. This small lake outside Stockholm, Sweden, emits otherworldly sounds as Mårten Ajne skates over its precariously thin, black ice. “Wild ice skating,” or “Nordic skating,” is both an art and a science. A skater seeks out the thinnest, most pristine black ice possible—both for its smoothness, and for its high-pitched, laser-like sounds.

Black ice is recently frozen, and can be as thin as 2 inches and still support the weight of a skater. Like a dome or arch, the support comes from the sides rather than the top, and the water underneath prevents the ice from breaking. But, experience and careful advance planning are key. Factors including temperature, atmospheric conditions, and even satellite images of the Earth’s surface are considered. It’s complicated, but appealing to mathematicians like Ajne. Even with preparation, there’s a risk of falling in… So it’s best done in groups, for safety.

London-based product designer, Dani Clode designed a third thumb to change the way people think about prosthetics. Clode believes that prosthetics extent a wearer’s ability. They shouldn’t be regarded as a replacement to part of the human body. The third thumb is made from a series of interconnected parts: a hand piece, an attachment, cables, motors, and two Bluetooth controllers.
