Following its resounding success at the box-office, War for the Planet of the Apes has more reasons to cheer as it was bestowed with the best visual effects award at the twenty-third Critics’ Choice Awards.
Held in Santa Monica, California on 11 January, the Twentieth Century Fox release was adjudged winner ahead of stellar nominees such as Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman.
New Zealand-based Weta Digital, at the credits for the movie’s special effects, struck gold for the second consecutive year at the event having bagged the prize last year as well for The Jungle Book.
War was the third and final chapter in the epic ape saga that culminates in a full-bloodied confrontation between the apes’ clan and American’s rogue paramilitary faction, Alpha-Omega. The Matt Reeves directorial garnered rave reviews from all quarters and went to accrue $490 million in global collections.
With the previous installments – Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – too claiming the gong in 2011 and 2014 edition of the awards respectively, the hit franchise completes its treble with the latest silverware.

The success of Coco continues to be glorified even after winning accolades at the Golden Globe Awards, and is now all geared up to face-off against another set of remarkable movies on being nominated for the BAFTA Awards 2018.
The seventy-first edition of the BAFTA awards presents over 24 categories nominating various top rated blockbusters, directors, animated movies, special effects and much more.
Under the special visual effects category, the likes of Blade Runner 2049, Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and War for the Planet of the Apes lock horns, whereas Coco, Loving Vincent and My Life as a Courgette compete for the best animation prize.
Also, Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve will witness tough battle to the top against other talented directors like Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name), Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape Of Water) and Martin McDonagh (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) for the best director award.
The competition is intense in the British short animation category as well, even though only three nominees are shortlisted – Have Heart, Mamoon and Poles Apart.
Unlike the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA squares this category to allow only the best of the best, with justified reasons that is also equitable.
The British Academy Film Awards 2018 will be held on 18 February in London.

One of the most loved and critically acclaimed games of the last decade is coming back, but with promises of better specs and gameplay adjustment.
Today From Software and Bandai Namco announced that the original Dark Souls will soon be joining the list of games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on 25 May as Dark Souls: Remastered. The remastered title will also be coming to Nintendo Switch, Bandai Namco announced earlier today as a part of a Nintendo Direct presentation.
Here are the resolutions for the various platforms the game is releasing on:
Xbox One (1080p, 60 fps)
PlayStation 4 (1080p, 60 fps)
Xbox One X (Upscaled 4K, 60 fps)
PlayStation 4 Pro (Upscaled 4K, 60 fps)
PC (Native 4K, all textures 2K unconverted, 60 fps)
Nintendo Switch (TV mode: 1080p, 30 fps; Handheld mode: 720p 30 fps)
The remastered edition will also come with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.
Dark Souls was originally released in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and was later ported to PC in 2012 as Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. The game got its latest edition in 2016 in the name of Dark Souls 3 which was released over PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Third time’s a wham as the Gladers are up the shit’s creek without a paddle in the upcoming Maze Runner: The Death Cure. In what promises to be the most treacherous and unforgiving challenge, the makers have thrown another scoop for all its fan in the new trailer.
Titled Any Ideas, the new video showcases the three lead protagonists Thomas (Dylan O’Brian), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Minho (Ki Hong Lee) cornered by a group of paramilitary faction as they try to abscond through a high-rise. With nowhere to go, the maze running triumvirate smash open the glass window to leap down to the bottom storey; a glimpse of the misadventures that our heroes have to surmount in the last curtain call.
The Death Cure is the final chapter in the dystopian sci-fi thriller as Thomas and his Glader counterparts attempt to rescue their fidus achates from the Last City, apparently the most serpentine maze to date, and obtain answers to certain pressing questions lingering in the air.
Distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, Maze Runner: The Death Cure is directed by Wes Ball and opens its labyrinthine network on 26 January 2018.
