CAKE has announced partnership with New Zealand based Pukeko Pictures to launch Kiddets, a sister series to hit animated preschool show, The WotWots.
Expanding The WotWots franchise with 52 brand new adventures, Kiddets will introduce five new WotWot characters, young space cadets in training, at a play school space academy on planet WotWot. Under the watchful eye of SpottyWot and DottyWot who are based on planet Earth, Patches, Dapper, Bounce, Stripes and Luna will learn all the skills they need to embark on a mission to a new world.
Appealing to existing fans of the original series, Kiddets will also have a broader audience appeal including older preschool children, with each 11 minute episode demonstrating the positive values of teamwork and the building blocks of true and enduring friendship.
CAKE CCO and managing director Ed Galton said, “Young children will delight in this enchanting new series and with its broader audience appeal, we are looking forward to welcoming a host of new fans to Planet WotWot!”
Under the agreement, CAKE will have worldwide distribution rights excluding Australia, New Zealand and Greater China to Kiddets. The agreement also extends to North American and European rights (for series two) of the original Pukeko Pictures show The WotWots (78 x 11’), a global hit series that has aired in over a hundred countries and which included an extensive licensing programme.
Kiddets is co-produced by Pukeko Pictures and Guangdong Huawen Century Animation Company and is the first official children’s television co-production between New Zealand and China.
Kiddests creator Martin Baynton said, “Right from the start the world of The WotWots was envisaged as a big story landscape where an entire race love to learn, to explore and to discover – just like our young audience. We dipped our toes into this rich world with The WotWots, now with Kiddets we are up to our knees and we can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
Kiddets will be launched at MIPCOM 2017.

India Film Project kicked off to a flyer with Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza and Kunal Kapoor sprinkling stardust
Posted in: AnimationThe India Film Project returned with its seventh edition with a two-day schedule filled with discussions, workshops and an evening to India’s first digital award specific to web videos.
Joined by several personalities of Bollywood including Kunal Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza along with content producers from various channels and background, inquisitive and aspiring filmmakers poured in to workshops for understanding the insider beans of creating content.
Kunal Kapoor in a conversation on How To Pitch Your Film?, expressed that as an actor he was “stuck in a box” in terms of the roles and that’s when he decided to take time off to change physically and re-package himself. Almost instantly, he ended up with stronger characters like in Veeram and Rag Desh and so he believes that presentation is important along with capabilities to pull it off while pitching a story as a content writer.
Along with him in conversation was film director Sagar Ballary of Bheja Fry, and producer and CEO Chhitra Subramanam who felt the need for the content writing sensibilities to be put differently while presenting to producers, actors or directors whilst keeping a strong logline for generating interest.
In a conversation with Dia Mirza, Neha Dhupia and Shashank Khaitan on Changing Dynamics Of Bollywood, Dia said that the audience today are maturing and are not necessarily attracted to stereotypical movies for escapism and are looking to get sense of reality. “Low-budget movies like Newton have done well, and such changes are due to sociology-political scenes that have been changing since past few years that are enabling such movies,” she added.
“Consumer is king,” according to Neha Dhupia, as she opines that only a few people are making such changes and there is a variety of audience catering to multiple contents and hence, numbers are only dipping overall. She said that the times have now got competitive as the audience back then could get suede away easily but today research is very important to not lapse off audience in this sea of content.
The evening witnessed India Film Project host the festival’s first digital awards for web videos with over 5500 videos competing across as many as seven categories.

While we still couldn’t get enough of the cantankerous Angry Maushi and her tantrums, prominent illustrator-animator Abhijeet Kini has a lot more in store for all the comic aficionados in the coming days.
His latest work, Rhyme Fighters – Odes to our unsung heroes, will be a 20-page comic replete with illustrated rhymes that pays tribute to the aam aadmis that we come across so often in the hustling-and-bustling city like Mumbai, yet somehow never find themselves in the public eye. Nor get the due for their unblemished service.
The uber-distressed traffic cops, the ever-punctual Mumbai dabbawalas, or even a local politician, everyone will be the cynosure of this new comic as Kini brings us short tales into their lives with a comedic twist that’s sure to tickle your funny bone.
And as opposed to the conventional comic tone, Rhyme Fighters, as the name suggests, will be a satirical humour in the form of interesting rhymes.
In an exclusive with Animation Xpress, Kini says, “Rhyme Fighters is like an experimental comic for me that I absolutely loved working on. And the best part is that we have Bombay Irani cafe and bar SodaBottleOpenerWala who have come on board with us for this comic.”
With the launch session happening soon, stay tuned for more updates!
