Bob’s Burgers has crossed over to Archer, but I wondered what’d happen if Archer were to take a trip to Bob’s Burgers. 7 months of animating, illustrating and plucking dialogue from both shows later, here’s the result.
Bob’s Burgers is hands down my favourite animated show ever made. I just adore it, it’s my happy place and long may it continue. Archer is another of my favourite shows, and I really enjoyed the crossover between the two in Archer’s 4th season. This piece started out as a doodle back in January 2017, and soon spiraled into something where I challenged to myself to imitate the Bob’s Burgers animation style, and using dialogue from both shows, form some sort of short where the characters meet. This has been an absolute passion project, and it’s made to honor both shows in the only way I know how, through my art.
Unfortunately, though I love Krieger, Cyril and Ray, I had to drop them from the episode. Bob’s restaurant isn’t a very big space for that many interacting characters, and also adding three more characters to the 10 already featuring added a huge additional level of complexity for having characters interact through dialogue.
This is the most intensive piece of animation I’ve ever made entirely on my own, and I do hope you enjoy it! If you did enjoy, do share it far and wide!
Some people have asked how I made this, so here a summary! I designed the Archer characters in photoshop first, then drew them up in After Effects which I then animated everything with. Backgrounds were re-drawn by hand so they they could be layered and used for animation in After Effects.
A lot of you have spotted Coach McGuirk in there, but there’s actually a 4th character hidden in there that H Jon Benjamin voices as well, if you want to find it!
Be sure to watch Bob’s Burgers and Archer if you haven’t, they’re truly superb. You can thank me later!
The end credits song is a version of Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone which is available on iTunes and is sung by Cheryl in the show under her 5th season name, Cherlene.

SIGGRAPH’s Real-time Live!: a preview

The world’s entertainment content market, MIPCOM takes place in Cannes, France from 16 to 19 October 2017, and this year takes as its over-arching conference theme, “The Global Race For Creative Connections”.
Movistar+ head of original programming Domingo Corral, Facebook head of global creative strategy Ricky Van Veen and video product director Daniel Danker will all deliver keynote speeches at MIPCOM 2017.
Corral oversees the production of series and features at Movistar+, Telefónica’s pay-TV operation that is revolutionising the Spanish audiovisual market. His keynote is scheduled for 16 October.

Corral will outline the content differentiation strategy of the Telefónica Group, and will explain the ambitious strategy of original series that will offer Movistar+ subscribers one new, exclusive product per month, created with premium production values. The platform has decided to lead the development of projects by directly supporting the best talent to produce TV series with unique, cinematic features.
On 18 October, Van Veen and Danker will discuss the increasingly important role video is playing in connecting people. They will delve into how Facebook is bringing video to the forefront of the user experience and harnessing the power of the Facebook community.
In his role at Facebook, Van Veen helps develop the company’s approach to content and works with media partners to create programming for the platform. Prior to Facebook, he co-founded leading comedy brand CollegeHumor and the video sharing site Vimeo. After these two companies were acquired by US online giant IAC in 2006, he spent the next 10 years overseeing the TV, film, print and digital content of next-generation studio Electus Digital.
As product director at Facebook, Danker is the leading product management of the company’s video product and Facebook Live. After spells at Microsoft, BBC iPlayer and most recently Shazam, Danker joined Facebook in January 2016 and oversaw the global rollout of Facebook Live, as well as new formats including Live 360 and live audio.

The whackiest of the cats is back for a whole new set of shenanigans as DreamWorks’ The Adventures of Puss in Boots readies for its fifth season of the popular animated television series.
The previous season concluded with the adorable Dulcinea battling it out with the demonic Bloodwolf to safeguard the peace and harmony of San Lorenzo. This time though, it’s a whole new ball game altogether.
Puss, Dulcinea and the rest of the hoi polloi of San Lorenzo find themselves at the daggers drawn with an army of monsters descended upon their city through the Netherworld portal. With havoc wreaking left, right and centre, Puss and his friends, also joined by the junior Puss squad, face an epic task of stopping these creatures.
They would also have to travel to the mystical land of the Netherworld through the portal to uncover the mysterious force which is orchestrating all the destruction, and pre-empt it before it burns the whole of San Lorenzo to ashes.
Sounds so interesting, doesn’t it? But you wouldn’t have to wait long to see all the skirmish unfold as the Adventures of Puss in Boots will be streaming on Netflix today onwards!
So hurry up, log on to Netflix and let the adventure unravel!
