Bhimsain Khurana to be felicitated for lifetime achievement at Animation Masters Summit

Celebrating the art of animation since 1999, Animation Masters Summit is back this year to host its annual event which will be held on 5 and 6 May in the Technopark campus of Thiruvananthapuram in the God’s own country- Kerala.

Conceived by Toonz Media Group, the event brings together veterans of the animation industry from various parts of the world to share their knowledge and provides a platform to the aspiring talent to interact with their role-models.

This year, Animation Masters Summit will celebrate ‘Passion for Animation’ – “the infinite fire of passion that perennially drives us to seek higher planes of creative fulfilment.” The summit will also launch the third edition of its Flying Elephant Competition– a platform for the masters and amateurs to showcase their talent through film-making.

The Flying Elephant competition has received 925 entries from across the world out of which best four will be shortlisted in the four categories- Animation Short Films, Animation TV Feature & Series, Live Action Short Films and Short Film- Student Category. A runner up and winner will be announced in all these four categories.

The two-day summit will commence with an inaugural ceremony at 9 am on Friday, 5 May. The inauguration will be done by Fred Wang, vice president of the China Film Foundation and director of the board of Hong Kong International Film Festival Society. The inaugural ceremony will be followed by sessions from masters like venture capitalist Keyur Patel, Sony Pictures Networks, VP and programming head, Ronojoy Chakraborty and renowned screenwriter Anjum Rajabali.

Following the tradition, Toonz has curated a line-up of the finest experts from the industry including Abhijit Avasthi (Ad guru and Sideways Consulting founder), John McKenna (One Animation, studio head), Dong-Su Jung (ICONIX Entertainment, new business division, director), Shrikumar Menon (branding expert and film-maker), Chris Henderson (executive producer), Amy Blair (YouTube Family & Learning, programming manager) and Lauren Glaubach (YouTube Family & Learning, head of programming).

Besides the Masters, a high profile delegation from Amazon India, a top representative from Turkish national broadcaster, representatives from national and internationals broadcasters, top notch production and creative studios and other experts and members from the fraternity are also expected.

The summit will honour the legend Bhimsain Khurana, who is also known as ‘The Father of Indian Animation. The award function which will be held on 6 May will give away prizes to the winners of the Flying Elephant Competition and conclude with a cultural program.

The registrations for Design Championship 2017 has begun

Design Championship is a platform for students to showcase their talents in six categories- Game Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Movie Making, and in Higher Education, UAV Design and Antenna Design. Design Championship gives a chance to the students to put their skills to use. The championship is held across 8 Indian cities:  Delhi, Trivandrum, Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai.

The learning outcomes demonstrated by students participating in Design Championship are design thinking, logic development, problem-solving & decision-making skills, artistic literacy and cognitive thinking which will be evaluated by leading industry experts as juries. This initiative is supported by MindBox, NASSCOM, AutoDesk, Corel, Chaos group, SketchUp, and Unity.

This competition is open to students of multiple age-group, 10 to 12 years belong to junior category, 13 to 16 years belong to senior category and 16 to 25 years for gigher education  (UAV & Antenna Design). The family team will be consisting of one elder (e.g. parent/cousin) and maximum 3 kids.

DEN Networks collaborates with France-based Visiware International to bring premium gaming service in India

DEN Networks, one of the largest cable TV service providers in India, has launched Playin’TV, a premium interactive gaming service that plans to usher in rich gaming experience for its subscribers.

The company has partnered with France-based Visiware International to offer these services. This is Visiware International’s first association with a CATV company in India.

Commenting on the launch of Playin’TV, DEN Networks, CEO, S.N. Sharma said, “We are excited to partner with Visiware International and launch Playin’ TV on our cable TV and broadband networks. Playin’ TV is an internationally-renowned interactive gaming channel and we always strive to provide world class entertainment to our customers.

DEN Networks had also collaborated with Indiagames last year to launch subscription-based services.

He further added, “The launch coincides with the arrival of Indian summers, a time when most people prefer indoor entertainment. Playin’ TV’s comprehensive suite of games ranging from board and card games to adventure and sports will provide the ideal indoor recreation to DEN subscribers across all ages.  With DEN Networks’ 13 million plus subscriber base spread across 400+ cities, Visiware International is set to gain a massive entry into the Indian market while our subscribers will enjoy premium games of international repute.”

The company is offering these games to its cable TV subscribers for free until 31 May. Post that, it will provide membership subscription at a promotional price of Rs 35 per month till September 2017.  The launch of Playin’TV on DEN Boomband, the company’s broadband service is to follow soon.

DEN will offer 6 games at the launch in May, with 1 new game added every month until September 2017. Post that, the games will be refreshed each month with favorite games staying on air for longer duration.

Entertainment One and Round Room to present first-ever ‘PJ Masks’ stage show

Entertainment One (eOne) and Round Room Presents have teamed up to bring the first PJ Masks live stage show to young fans and their families across the U.S. and Canada. Based on eOne’s top-rated animated series, airing daily on Disney Junior, “Time to Be a Hero!,” is a dynamic, fully-immersive production featuring music, aerobatics and more. The new touring show will visit more than 50 North American cities starting this September. In addition to the live show, eOne continues to grow its already impressive PJ Masks consumer products program with consumer packaged goods and food partners as well as the property’s first music release, “Here We Come,” a mini-album, now available for digital download.

Humanium Metal melts guns for good

The Humanium Metal Initiative, developed in Sweden for IM Swedish Development Partner has won a Yellow Pencil for Good at the D&AD Awards. Humanium is a new material made of recycled metal from weapons destruction programs. The metal is melted and molded into certified units, and is now made available for commercial production. By using Humanium in their production, brands, artists and designers can help the world become a more peaceful place. With every Humanium product sold, new funds are generated to help support the victims, expand weapons destruction programs and rebuild conflict-torn societies. So far IM Swedish Development Partner has worked with weapons destruction programs in El Salvador and Guatemala, and started partnerships with watch manufacturer TRIWA, Swedish bike brand BIKEID, architectural firm Oscar Properties, design company Skultana and menswear company A Day’s March. Humanium Metal Certification

The Humanium Metal initiative is based on maintaining close involvement cooperation with public authorities and local organisations. The metal comes from seized firearms, in the control of relevant public authorities and cleared for destruction by competent legal representatives. Principles for agreed fair trade policies are applied in all levels of the operations, as formulated by the World Fair Trade Organisation. Technical specification of metal can be provided for each single batch of melted firearms, in accordance with the documentation handed out by the melting plant.
