‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ goes gold

Over the last week or so, we have had our fair share of news for Mass Effect: Andromeda. The upcoming action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts had recently released a video which gave us an overview about the basics of the game’s action and weapons. The video goes on to talk about four main kinds of weapons, pistols, sniper rifles, shotguns and assault rifles. Other than that, the video also showed melee items and special moves.

Now, as the news comes, the game has officially gone gold, which means that developer, BioWare has finished working on the initial development. The company took to twitter to confirm the news.

However, this might not mean that the game is absolutely ready; the developers will now possibly be working on the Day – 1 DLC patch or an upcoming patch. It had already been confirmed that Mass Effect: Andromeda will not have a DLC pass, but BioWare plans to support the game with additional content in the future.

We recently also learnt that the players would be able to play most of the game after they complete the main story mode.

Going by the dates, the developers are doing a pretty good job of sticking to the schedule for the 21 March release of the game. Mass Effect: Andromeda will be available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, the multiplayer beta is expected to be available sometime before that.

Demi-god, Hayao Miyazaki to direct his first CG animation feature

Hayao Miyazaki

Japanese animation film studio, Studio Ghibli’s co-founder and highly acclaimed creator and director of some of the most incredible works in the field of animation is once again stepping out of retirement for his love of film-making, with a new anime feature.

The Academy Honorary Award winning anime director is working on Kemushi No Boro (Boro The Caterpillar), a feature-length version of a 12-minute computer-generated 3D short film that he made in 2015, after learning how to use animation software for the first time.

The news was confirmed during a pre-Oscar interview with Studio Ghibli producer, Toshio Suzuki. Suzuki, who was talking about the Oscar-nominated film The Red Turtle which is co-produced by Studio Ghibli, said that the studio will be back with a feature-length which will be helmed by Miyazaki.

Though there are no estimates of the film’s release date, the animation studio hopes to release the film before the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Miyazaki is currently in Tokyo working hard on the feature.

One of the reporters who was present during the interview tweeted the confirmation.

According to his tweets, Miyazaki had presented Suzuki with a storyboard for the film that he had created in 20 minutes. The producer who was also on the verge of retirement told Miyazaki that his concept for the film was great and agreed to produce it.

The short film Boro The Caterpillar will debut at the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo this summer. According to Miyazaki, it’s “a story of a tiny, hairy caterpillar, so tiny that it may be easily squished between your fingers.”

Miyazaki, whose most iconic works include Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, will after years of not being keen on CG, for the first time will venture into computer generated full length film.

‘Arrival’ screenwriter Eric Heisserer to pen Valiant’s ‘Secret Weapons’ comic

Eric Andrew Heisserer, the screenplay writer for Arrival – based on Story of Your Life written by Ted Chiang – is working on his new comic series called Secret Weapons for Valiant Comics.

Secret Weapons is based on Harbinger, a best-selling comic about a team of teenage superheroes. In Secret Weapons, the team will band together under the leadership of Livewire to combat evil.

Secret weaponsHeisserer has earlier written a couple of mini-series for Dark Horse Comics. He has also penned the screenplay for the upcoming film-adaption of Harbinger, and a movie script based on Valiant superhero Bloodshot. Harbinger is about a team of young heroes with incredible abilities and Bloodshot is about a tormented soldier enhanced with technology which makes him unstoppable. Heisserer plans to create a cinematic universe of these superhero characters.

Secret Weapons follows the Valiant superhero ‘Livewire’ as she stumbles across a group of young “psiots” (super-powered individuals) with seemingly useless powers. One can talk to birds while another can make objects glow. They all come from different racial backgrounds. Their cultures influence the person they are, without defining them or making them one-dimensional. But Livewire, one of Valiant’s more hopeful and optimistic characters, doesn’t see failure. She sees a group of secret weapons.

What Heisserer loved about Livewire is her immovable moral compass. For example, when her teacher, Toyo Harada, turns out to be some sort of a supervillain, Livewire still knows what is inherently right and wrong. “Oh God, I love that about her. And I need more people like that in the world,” said the Oscar nominee.

The series is a collaboration between Heisserer, artist Raul Allen, and colourist Patricia Martin, with the first issue arriving on 28 June, 2017.
