The creator of the beloved Angry Maushi comics Abhijeet Kini is all set to introduce a new comedic comic – Fanboys. The 16 page digest size comic will be getting a black and white treatment.
Here’s the synopsis of the comic:
Fanboys is a tale of 3 comic buffs who want attend a Comic Con but can’t. They make a deal with a fairy, which actually lands them in Hell. Will the Fanboys – Jay, Kay and Emm – be able to free themselves from Satan and the Wishfairy and attend what would be their most epic Comic Con?
It’s a funny little story focussing on fanboy culture, comics and more. Abhijeet Kini says, “Wacom India has supported this comic, taking further our great relation with the brand, as well as the people behind it and we are thankful to them.”
When it comes to the art style, we will observe the same style for which Kini is known for: free flowing humour, high on exaggerations. Wanting to try something new and having an idea in his mind, Kini managed to get the comic together within a short span of 10 days. As for Angry Maushi fans, they will have to wait for a while to see the lady in nauvari as for now, Kini is done with the series.
Talking about the interesting aspect of this new comic, Kini quips, “Since we are launching this at the Comic Con itself, the readers will instantly connect with the Comic Con culture, and the desperation us comic lovers have when it comes to coming over to a Con and buying some cool comics.”
Kini decided to launch this new title as he wanted to venture into a lighter beat which even the young readers can read. Fanboys won’t be sporting any crude language, violence, political spoofs, underlying messages and is a straight up pure fun.
Being an independant comic book publisher has never been easy and Kini too faced some hardships. “Printing and distribution: these two factors still remain the most difficult ones. I am fortunate to have a good printing solution who is extremely good and trustworthy with what he does. However, the distribution is something that needs to be addressed. We are fortunate that the Comic Con’s are taking place so often in India, we can look to selling our comics there. Plus there are a few online options. However, self published, self distributed comics are not freely taken up by book shops or retailers, as they are of the opinion that these don’t sell. But how would they know without trying out?”
With this release, Kini hopes to reach out to the younger audience when it comes to his comics while with Angry Maushi it was more of an adult affair. A positive Kini asserts,”With Fanboys, I am confident that kids would enjoy it too. So maybe more content which is all-encompassing here on. I would like to keep Fanboys as an ongoing series as it’s based on pop-culture, so you can expect more issues of it.”
Fanboys is set to launch at the upcoming Comic Con India Hyderabad edition.
