Sony Pictures Animation launches the first trailer of ‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’

Sony Pictures Animation has released the first official trailer for director Kelly Asbury’s (Shrek 2, Gnomeo & Juliet) “Smurfs: The Lost Village”.

The film is based primarily on The Smurfs comic book series created by the Belgian comics artist Peyo, and is a total reboot film, completely unrelated to Sony’s live-action / animated film series which hit the theatres in 2011 and 2013.

In this fully animated, all-new take on the Smurfs, a mysterious map sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on an exciting and thrilling race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village before the evil wizard Gargamel does. Embarking on a rollercoaster journey full of action and danger, the Smurfs are on a course that leads to the discovery of the biggest secret in Smurf history!

The film stars Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Jack McBrayer as Clumsy Smurf, Danny Pudi as Brainy Smurf and Joe Manganiello as Hefty Smurf. The antagonist Gargamel has been voiced by Rainn Wilson.

As opposed to the live action / animated film, the voice cast of this fully animated movie has been changed. In the live action / animated movie, Katy Perry had lend her voice to Smurfette whereas Jonathan Winters voiced Papa Smurf.

The Smurfs made on a budget of $110 million grossed $563 million in 2011 whereas The Smurfs 2 whose budget was $105 million managed to rake in just $347 million in 2013.

Written by Stacey Harman and Pamela Ribon Based on the characters and works of Peyo, Smurfs: The Lost Village has been produced by Jordan Kerner with co-producer Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews.

Get ready to go smurfing on with these cute little blue creatures on 21 March, 2017. The India release date is 14 April, 2017.

Here’s the comprehensive procedure of creating an in-game character: By Zynga’s Shyam Deshpande and Arnab Roy

Animation has the power to bring things to life which are barely possible in other visual mediums. It can be fantasy or reality, the freedom is all yours when you choose to conceptualise and create a character. At Anifest India 2016, a talented duo from Zynga’s portrayed how an animated character is conceptualised, sketched and modelled to perfection through digital means. The character’s name was ‘Athena’, a battle scarred lady warrior from another planet and it was designed specially for the viewers at Anifest 2016. We wanted to share the amazing process with everyone on how Athena was made and here it is, check it out for yourself.

Here are the artworks that Shyam Deshpande had created and you can see the character steadily making her way out through the sketches:

Next up was Arnab Roy, the character artist from Zynga Games, who showcased the moddeling of the character, with every detail, here’s a look into it:
