From beasts to metahumans, watch everything that was showcased at San Diego Comic-Con 2016

The biggest comic convention, San Diego Comic-Con just got over and surely gave us a lot to talk about. The four day con witnessed a massive turnout of more than 100,000 attendees who got to witness some major trailer and teaser releases from the two major comic book giants, DC and Marvel.

Even though many major studies gave Comic-Con a miss, no fan can deny the fact that they were in for a treat this year as Disney owned Marvel and its rival, DC Comics, managed to lure the attendees with their TV shows and movies – teasers, trailers and A-list stars.

Among the absentees were 20th Century Fox, Legendary Pictures and Lionsgate, leaving Warner Bros and Marvel to dominate proceedings.

In case you have missed out on any trailer / teaser admist the chaos, not to worry as we have got you covered. Listing down all the major clip releases at San Diego Comic-Con.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

The feature film version of the classic King Arthur story, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword will hit the theatres on 24 March, 2017.

Marvel movies

Doctor Strange

If you thought the first teaser trailer was psychedelic, this one will make your mind’s blow away. The trailer is something Marvel fans would have never imagined off as it’s the most trippiest and visually grasping video where we observe the Sorcerer Supreme learning the ways of magic, and lots of ‘Inception’-like folding cities.
The movie is set to release on 4 November, 2016.

Marvel TV Series

Though Marvel released trailer of just one movie, they managed to release teasers and trailers of their upcoming shows on Netflix and FX.

Luke Cage

All episodes of Luke Cage are set to premiere on Netflix on 30 September, 2016.

Iron Fist

Iron Fist is scheduled to release on Netflix in 2017.

The Defenders

The Defenders will be a miniseries crossover of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist and is set to premiere on Netflix  in 2017.

Legion

Legion follows David Haller, a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and visions might be real.
Legion debuts in early 2017 and is produced by FX Productions and Marvel Television.

DC Comics movies

The LEGO Batman Movie

The LEGO Batman Movie, a spin off of the film The LEGO Movie, just like its teaser trailer, the trailer will also set you on a roll. Batman’s sidekick, Robin makes his appearance in this new trailer and will surely make you laugh.
The movie is set to debut on 10 February, 2017.

Suicide Squad

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment released Suicide Squad – Official Comic-Con Soundtrack Remix which is no less than a trailer wherein the villain is clearly defined and we get to catch a glimpse of Batman and his batmobile.
The ‘Worst Heroes Ever’ are set to make their mark on theatres on 5 August, 2016.

Wonder Woman

It was about time for Wonder Woman to get her own trailer.
The Amazonian princess is set to rule our world on 2 June, 2017.

Justice League

WIth Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman each getting a new trailer, how can Justice League be left behind. A special Comic-Con footage was released of Justice League wherein Bruce Wayne can been assembling the Justice League team. Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg and Wonder Woman make their appearances in this 2:45 minutes footage; however Superman and Green Lantern give it a miss (probably building up the suspense).
Justice League is set to hit the theatres in November 2017.

DC Comics TV series

The Flash – Season 3

Everything in Barry’s world has changed to become…Flashpoint. The Flash premieres on The CW on 4 October, 2016 on The CW.

Arrow – Season 5

Forced to rebuild, Oliver tries to make vigilantes into heroes on the new season of Arrow, premiering on 5 October on The CW.

Legends of Tomorrow – Season 2

Batman assembles a crew to save the world from destruction in the new ‘Justice League’ movie clip

A band of superheroes saving the planet from sheer destruction. While this has been a concept for many super hero movies and animated features alike, the idea primarily paints one picture in our mind, ‘Justice League’. The thrilling series from DC Comics won countless hearts over the years and set a benchmark for superhero squad stories.

Now, as we already know, the first ever live-action movie inspired by the comics will be hitting theatres next year for which everyone is waiting impatiently. So, the good folks at Warner Bros. decided to give the fans something to relish on till more information is out.

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a small clip with excerpts from the movie with a look of the characters was released. This year we witnessed unhappy fans due to as they said, ‘the overly dark’ tone witnessed in Batman vs Superman movie. However DC managed to win their fans heart once again with this teaser. While the video, as a prelude mentions clearly, “The following footage was prepared by the filmmakers as a special look for fans in attendance at Comic-Con 2016”, the community has already loved it as a trailer/teaser.

The 2:45 minutes video clip features Batman, played by Ben Affleck attempting to assemble a squad of super heroes to fight something evil. He is shown reaching out to Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa and The Flash (who seems to be most excited to join the force), played by Ezra Miller. Miller can be seen as a geeky guy who is need of friends and is a big fan of Batman, whereas Momoa seemed speculative of Affleck’s intentions / motives.

Wonder Woman and Cyborg have also been featured in the clip. While we are certain Green Lantern and Superman will make their debuts with the eventual video releases from the makers, however for now, they are nowhere to be seen.

Having said all that, we would suggest staying put and waiting for Warner Bros. to release some more details and clips about the movie. 2017 is sure going to be an amazing year, November especially, you know why.

We just hope they do Justice to it!

Now we know where to find J.K. Rowling’s ‘Fantastic Beasts’

“I wanna be a wizard! I wanna play around with the magical creatures flying across the street and lastly, I wanna own that briefcase full of fantastic beasts.” A similar desire might erupt in you after watching the recent Fantastic Beasts trailer with the high point ‘now you know where to find them’ in contrast to what the title claims.

When you walk back in the past on the land of New York City in 1926, there seems to be peace and discipline due to the ideal way according to which the society functioned. However, too much of peace is not good, in fact too much of anything is not good. So, the ground underneath the feet of fellow citizens suddenly slips as ‘Magic takes a toll and invades the human race’.

How can you define the hypothetical being? Or rather how can you control the invisible and invincible? If something has escaped you either need to let it go completely or get it back with all your heart and soul bearing the consequences in mind. J.K. Rowling’s fictional creatures have escaped far and wide and the protagonist Newt Scamander played by Eddie Redmayne is on his journey to get them back.

When fiction and the realistic world meet, there seems to be chaos. Well more than chaos, the intersection of the creatures of the two worlds calls for an emerging war for man can’t bear anything unusual invasion in his own lifestyle. On the contrary if magic takes the lead, every turn of the wand, every word spoken by the wizard and every move of the powerful creature can change the face of the entire human race. It can destroy man or transcend him into ecstasy with the blink of an eye.

Directed by David Yates and produced by Rowling, David Heyman, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them will hit theatres on 18 November, 2016.

It’s all about meeting people, sharing ideas and learning from each other

‘Time does not make history; people do!’ You open your mind and broaden your perspective not when you speak but when you listen. People’s stories, their thoughts, ideas, situations, problems, creativity, interests, lifestyles may considerably differ from what you are or what you believe in. But it is only when you encounter such people, cross your paths with their varied backgrounds, get to know their story and learn from whatever they are willing to impart that you grow, upgrade and transform into a better individual.

We are constantly on the quest to upgrade ourselves and fill our cup of knowledge. The internet seems to be the ideal knowledge provider but definitely everything around us has more of information to share for it comes down to a simple belief- Everybody around you has a story to tell. With a multitude of people from all backgrounds, Trojan Horse was a Unicorn (THU) is an event that focuses on bringing global knowledge to the attendees with the goal to inspire them to be better artists and better human beings.

THU founder André Luis

The unique creative event Trojan Horse was a Unicorn (THU) returns to Tróia, Portugal from 19 to 24 September 2016 with a host of Academy Award-winning speakers. AnimationXpress got in touch with the founder of the festival André Luis to dive deep and dig out what is the event all about.

André Luis says, “Trojan Horse was a Unicorn (THU) is about creativity at 360 degrees. It is a bootcamp in paradise for artists and creators.”

It is the fourth edition of THU and the event has been constantly growing and evolving. “Very quickly, we achieved what so many events or corporations want: we are a community, a real community that we call the THU tribe.”

Well, the goal of THU is making sure everyone shares experiences and networks; making friends is one of the most important aspects of THU. The event hosts activities from 9 am to 3 am every day, from Masterclasses to inspirational talks and late-night drawing sessions.

Directors, screenwriters, designers and animators hold masterclasses and give inspirational talks. They bring new content and perspectives that can have a strong impact on the attendees. This year Brenda Chapman, Kevin Lima and Ryan Woodward are among the few Academy Award winning speakers.

A lot of exposure is given to animation, CGI and VFX. Films and various feature and short film projects are a major topic of discussion too. Visionaries come in to talk about tendencies, the market, new projects and technologies, and discuss VR and AR. The whole event revolves around creativity so the AVGC industry fits in quite appropriately as a pool of information is shared by various industry experts, upcoming artists and lay people with an inclination towards creativity. So, the maestros share their experience and the curious minds quench their thirst in a fun friendly and enjoyable way.

THU 1

Though THU is an international event, the recruitment is really different at THU. “We provide an environment like a living room, and instead of just showing their portfolios, all the attendees will be able to get portfolio reviews from the recruiters. This year we will also have an extra day of recruitment exclusively for the attendees that bought tickets to THU TV 2016.”

What is the fun if you meet people but their ego and status does not let you meet them entirely. For the very simple reason, this event believes in simplicity and an equal treatment.

“The best part of the event is that there are no VIPs at THU since Day 1. Everyone is equal to us. First-time artists or visitors will fit in really well. They will not know the difference, to be honest. Especially since everyone sits, eats, drinks, and walks around in the same place.”

As per THU’s last edition, the event comprises of over 600 attendees from around 59 countries with approximately 100 hours of inspiration. In fact, THU 2016 will cater majorly to various topics from animation to VFX, concept art, 3D, VR, and Illustration. so if you are one of those curious minds constantly searching for knowledge and believing in learning from people then THU has a lot in store for you.

Esso Journeys That Matter - Sophie

Paul Cohen, ECD on ExxonMobil at adam&eveDDB, says: “We’ve tried to talk to fuel consumers differently, we’ve avoided the hard-hitting fuel economy claims and instead, we’ve put Esso front and centre in people’s lives as the facilitator of ‘Journeys That Matter’. By telling the story of Sophie, a strong independent woman making a significant journey of her own we hope to engender an emotional engagement with one of the world’s largest corporations and inspire people to make meaningful journeys of their own.”

Sir David Attenborough Narrating Pokemon Go Is All You Hoped For

Pokemon Go gets the Sir David Attenborough treatment in a new viral video.
The Irish website Lovin Dublin posted the clip to its Facebook page on July 14. It gained major traction online over the weekend and has now garnered more than 2.4 million views.
The renowned British naturalist’s wildlife commentary is dubbed over footage of someone playing the augmented reality game in the hilarious clip.
“It is, of course, a bird,” Attenborough is mashed up to say about a Spearow, before describing a lizard-like Charmander as a “top predator.”

“Bats, with their fluttering zig zag flight are not easy targets,” he later narrates as a Zubat hoves into view. “That is one bat that will not return to the roost tonight,” he adds after it’s been caught by the player.
