Hasta La Motion!

Really excited to be contributing to 3DArtist magazine – issue 93 has an in-depth piece on taking your ZBrush skills to the next level. I interviewed a bunch of artists who do incredible work.

This was a fun interview to do for Develop with vfx artist Greg Punchatz who made armatured stop motion models to be photographed and used as reference for the sprite CG models in the original Doom.

One of the most popular and influential comic strip in the history of United States that recently got itself a movie and did a phenomenal job at the box office office will now once again spread its magic on the small screen. Yes, we are talking about Charles M. Schulz’s beloved “Peanuts” characters who are headed to Boomerang next month in a series of animated shorts that will air for the first time in English.

Produced by Normaal Animation Studios for French public broadcaster France Télévisions, the 90 second shorts were first aired in 2014 in French language on French 3. Boomerang parent company Turner Broadcasting announced the deal to air the 500 shorts last fall.

As Normaal was roped in to animate this series, the series followed the 2D stop motion animation technique as it meant to please old and new fans. The 2015 The Peanuts Movie had for the first risked of coming with a 3D CGI animation even when everyone was sceptical if they would be able to pull off Schulz’s drawing style as it would have been easy to lose the ‘Peanuts’ essence in this transition. However the movie managed to garner $246.2 million at the box office and become a hit.

Getting Peanuts on the small screen in English will not only make fans relive the comic strips but will also help in reaching out to a larger audience. Peanuts will premiere Monday, 9 May, on Boomerang, with new episodes debuting daily at 11:30 am ET / 8:30 am PT. Viewers will be able to catch a sneak peek on Cartoon Network the week of 9 May at 10:30 am ET / PT, with select shorts also appearing on the Cartoon Network video app.

The series joins a Boomerang lineup that includes Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, Bunnicula, The Tom and Jerry Show and Wabbit. For now, Peanuts will give India a miss but we hope to witness Snoopy’s adventures in future on any one of the Turner owned channels in India – Cartoon Network, POGO or Toonami.

Job Profile:

• Candidate should have expertise in Keying, Paint, Comping both CG/VFX, Camera Projection, Matchmoving etc.
• Candidate must have extensive knowledge of compositing software like Nuke.
• Must be Creative and should have very good understanding of color, light, shadow & frame composition.
• Must have strong observation & should pay close attention to details of a given shot.
• Must be able to do clear analyses of any given shot and should be able to solve any problems in the shot individually without any help or supervision.
• Should work smartly and be able to deliver projects on time.

Production Coordinator

• EXPERIENCE:  1 to 3 Years
• REQUIREMENT:
• 1-3 years of exp, Preferably from VFX Industry.
• Assign the shots and tracking from artists till it gets delivered.
• Team Building, to maintain positive work environment and supportive to artists.
• Keeps a proactive view to creative and technical challenges that may impact schedule and providing potential solutions.
• Ensures schedules, tasking and project constraints are communicated to the supervisors, Leads and artists, working with them to define specific development and resource specifications needed to complete the project.
• Prepare daily reports of shots, artist status to the concern VFX producer Partners with the Resource Manager to effectively look into future artist requirements.

Position: Match Move Artists

Requirement: Immediate Joinee                                                                      

 Experience: 0 to 4 years

Job Profile:

• Camera Tracking and match moving objects in live action plates for VFX projects
• General skills in modeling and ability to create basic sets for the shots
• Previous experience and in-depth knowledge of roto-animation is a plus
• Basic understanding of camera and filming techniques and other VFX departments

1. Position: Rotoscope Artists
Requirement:

• 3 – 5 plus years of experience in Feature film and VFX.
• Creating clear areas (mattes) within the frame to allow all elements of the scene to be layered convincingly by the Compositor or perfectionists with an eye for detail.
• Nuke, Silhouette, Mocha knowledge is a must. 

2. Position: BG Prep Artists
Requirement:

• 3 – 5 plus years of experience in Feature film and VFX.
• We are looking for candidates who have a keen eye for detail.
• Experience in wires, rig, and tracker removal & clean up.
• Nuke, Photoshop knowledge is a must

3. Position: Roto QC
Requirement:

• A minimum of 4 years experience as a QC on Roto for Feature Film projects in an established VFX Facility.
• A Through understanding of VFX and Post Production process and Pipelines is essential.
• Excellent people management, communication and organizational skills, as well as an exceptional Eye for the details.
• The ability to motivate and lead a team with enthusiasm and clarity.
• Excellent knowledge in Nuke, Mocha and Silhouette.
• Experience using Shotgun/F Track or similar production Management software.

4. Position: Paint QC
Requirement:

• A minimum of 4 years experience as a QC on Paint, clean up for Feature Film projects in an established VFX Facility.
• A Thorough understanding of VFX and Post Production process and Pipelines is essential.
• Excellent people management, communication and organizational skills, as well as an exceptional Eye for the details.
• The ability to motivate and lead a team with enthusiasm and clarity.
• Excellent knowledge in Nuke, Photoshop and Silhouette.
• Experience using Shotgun/F Track or similar production Management software.

5. Position: Restoration Artist
Requirement:

Applicant should have min. 2 to 5 years of experience in digital film restoration. Should have good knowledge of Diamant Software or any other film restoration software.

6. Production Coordinators
Requirement:

• Tracking data of all shots with proper naming and allocation details of shots and artists on day-to-day basis. Also, maintain correction notes of respective shots on same sheet.
• Keep coordination with Team Leads and take updates on shots, keep informing shot status is it on time, delay, hold or any concern clear asap with leads or HOD.
• Track artist’s performance on day-to-day basis. Find out strong and weak among artists.
• Send Proper shot allocations mails to all artists for any new shot or tasks.
• Check all artists of team sending shots daily status / wip mail to team leads also check artists sending proper internal review mails for QC to team leads.
• 6 months – 1 yr experience in the VFX Industry.
• Clear communication of accurate information in fluent English.
