Kevin Kelly | 12 Inevitable Tech Forces That Will Shape Our Future | SXSW Interactive 2016

In a few years we’ll have artificial intelligence that can accomplish professional human tasks. There is nothing we can do to stop this. In addition our lives will be totally 100% tracked by ourselves and others. This too is inevitable. Indeed much of what will happen in the next 30 years is inevitable, driven by technological trends which are already in motion, and are impossible to halt without halting civilization. Some of what is coming may seem scary, like ubiquitous tracking, or robots replacing humans. Others innovations seem more desirable, such as an on-demand economy, and virtual reality in the home. And some that is coming like network crime and anonymous hacking will be society’s new scourges. Yet both the desirable good and the undesirable bad of these emerging technologies all obey the same formation principles.

Artificial Intelligence

“The daily grinding of evolution, as accelerated by technology, churns out more and more complex organisms, with higher rates of energy use, and with increasing specialization. Minds are the ideal way to express complexity, energy density, increasing specialization, expanding diversity — all in one system. Mindedness is what evolution produces. Mindedness is what technology wants, too.” -Kevin Kelly

Animation Masters Summit 2016 culminates with a plethora of information and inspiration to follow your intuition

Knowledge and Creativity was further enhanced as the second day of the Animation Masters Summit 2016 opened with YouTube Kids & Learning, Head APAC, Don Anderson’s exemplary presentation on digitalisation and power of YouTube. Focusing mainly on YouTube Kids app, Anderson explained how various types of content has worked for various age groups of kids. He introduced the extensive features of YouTube Kids app as it has various facilities of parent control, search control and also how it maintains a healthy schedule for kids by keying them to get a good sleep after a certain time of browsing.

YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world after Google. And, animated  content on YouTube has worked wonders as kids themselves have taken to create their own content on YouTube and start their own channel.

YouTube Kids & Learning, strategic partner manager for Northern Europe, Cedric Petitpas touched on these points as he displayed various Youtubers who have used Animation, Live action or a combination of both to create content for kids and educate them in an entertaining way. The humongous number of views and subscribers that Petitpas pointed out definitely sent a strong message to the congregation that YouTube is ‘The next platform’ to display your own content with considerable freedom.

Courage, willingness to take risks and following your intuition to find your passion was all substantially portrayed by Arjun The Warrior Prince director Arnab Chaudhauri. Working as the creative director at Turner for Cartoon Network majorly, Arnab directed various animated projects for India for the major broadcaster. He explained that he quit his corporate job at Turner just for this feature as this was what he wanted to create. But destiny had its own way, as he joined Disney as a creative director and now again has cocooned to follow his own passion as he has taken up creating his own content, videos and in depth photography. In this era of CGI and computer animation, the art and essence of creating basic production design physically still remains alive quite effectively was unknown until production art designer Sabu Cyril explained his entire journey.

Having worked on various films like Baahubali, Robot, Ra One, Krissh 3, Om Shanti Om and so on, Sabu Cyril conveyed how he still prefers to create various production design physically till the basic crux and then let the CGI to be added. Right from horses, elephants, temples, palaces, dams, swords, shields, costumes, street, huge towers to an entire city; he presented how he went about creating various props with minute detailing and perfection in technicality and creativity.

It is rightly said that Sabu Cyril is an animator, production designer, art director, physicist, chemist, engineer, architect, sculptor and much more as he can or probably has created everything which may seem impossible to any lay man.
