Dresden Mural – CityBilder Project – JBAK – James Bullough & Addison Karl

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: www.jbakonline.wordpress.com/ ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: JBAK is a creative partnership between artists/painters James Bullough and Addison Karl. Each artist brings his unique vision and style to their combined body of work. Bullough’s main focus is photo-realism, with attention to ambient and deep space, layers, and geometric forms. He combines contemporary street art techniques and materials with those of realist oil painters, creating pieces of vivid color and masterful detail. Conversely, Addison’s work is produced using a hatch drawing style, which utilizes fine lines and details to create fantastic illustrations of both diminutive and immense images and proportions. Originally from Baltimore and Seattle, Bullough and Addison currently live and work in Berlin. Though their styles and approaches are different, their shared interests in art and culture and their desires to experiment within the limitlessness of their mediums, brought them together. Their mutual love of travel, urban societies, and the people who inhabit them, led to the development of a more cohesive theme of unity and humanity. JBAK have blended their contrasting styles into a mashup of antonyms: realism vs. illustrative, expressive vs. precise, hard vs. soft, black vs. a spectrum. The pair seeks desirable locations paying close attention to the space and the people that live and work within it. Their intent is not to disrupt but rather, to integrate their art into the existing environment, creating harmony, balance, and adding life to an otherwise colorless wall. Together, JBAK create large-scale murals, which highlight their differing design aesthetics while at the same time, reaching a common goal—to give people a reason to look up, around, and beyond themselves. -Jennifer Weitman

See ftrack 3.2 and the upcoming NUKE STUDIO integration at NAB 2015

Mon 13th Apr 2015 | News

ftrack, the project management solution for creative, visual effects and animation industries will release version 3.2 of its industry-leading cloud-based platform this summer.

New features will include NUKE STUDIO integration, along with improved functionality of the innovative Actions system.

See these new elements at The Foundry’s futures tech preview at NAB – head to booth SL6329.

NUKE STUDIO integration

Coming in ftrack 3.2, NUKE STUDIO integration will provide the entire file-based workflow that The Foundry currently has, but in an asset-based workflow. With this tight integration, ftrack will take the pain away from using the file system, dealing with it through an out-of-the-box solution.

Crew tab and chat feature – Users will be able to communicate with other members via text and video chat, improving communication for work dependent on others. Now coordinators and producers can look at a shot and communicate with members working on the shot, which is useful for checking status. The chat feature will help break down the barriers in pipelines that often occur due to a lack of communication, and will reduce bottlenecks so information can go direct to the relevant crew.

The crew tab and chat feature is debuting in NUKE STUDIO, and will continue to be included in future products as they are integrated.

Increase efficiency with improved Actions

Actions, available in ftrack today, provide a platform for developers to extend ftrack with Python API. Native to the system, Actions allow users to tightly integrate processes such as generating reports, to automate repetitive tasks, or to create file system structures.

These Actions appear directly in the ftrack web interface, making it seamless and easy to use. Developers can also customise parts of the UI and request additional information from the user before the Actions run (e.g. requesting an email address to send a report to).

Context aware – With permissions and roles, users won’t be bombarded with all available Actions on the whole system. They will only be presented with Actions and functions that are appropriate to where they are in the system and the role they are fulfilling. If you’re a producer looking at a review session, you might be generating a report about that session – but if you’re elsewhere in that system, you won’t see the same Action.

Future of Actions – We will provide example Actions and put them up for the ftrack community to use, but we encourage other users, developers and studios to share their own Actions in what will become a plug-in community, where people can easily share, download and install these Actions.

Shotgun Software Announces Shotgun 6 and RV 6 at NAB 2015

Mon 13th Apr 2015 | News

Today at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2015 in Las Vegas, NV, Shotgun Software unveiled Shotgun 6 and RV 6 which now work together without any required end-user configuration. Shotgun is the cloud-based production tracking, review and asset management software for film, TV and games, recently expanded via acquisition with RV, the widely adopted desktop image and sequence player. Shotgun 6 will now include direct access to RV 6 at no extra cost to users, with the latest releases of both Shotgun 6 and RV 6 also offering new features to boost production efficiency.

“Just months after bringing our friends from Tweak on board and announcing a new pricing model, we’ve built some really great new functionality into both Shotgun and RV that helps artists and supervisors collaborate around their work much faster,” said Don Parker, co-founder of Shotgun and Autodesk senior director. “Including RV as part of Shotgun and adding RVX and RVIO at no additional cost is a win-win for all of our customers. We’re excited to be showing it at NAB.”

New Features in Shotgun 6:

— RV in Shotgun: Download, install and start using RV with your existing Shotgun login. No extra fees, no need for a separate license, and accessible in a single click with no configuration.

— New Project Templates: Templates help you manage different workflows for different projects, such as films, episodic TV series, or games.

— Enhanced Navigation and Browsing: Choose how you organize the items you’re tracking (i.e. Shots by Sequence, or Asset by Type), then navigate between them using Shotgun’s new navigation widget.

— Improved Flame Integration: Transfer content from Flame into Shotgun faster and more reliably.

— Updated Loader: Artists can now find and load files faster directly from inside of their creative tools, such as Maya, 3ds Max and Nuke, using the new list view in the Toolkit Loader app.

New in RV 6:

— Shotgun Login: A new licensing option allows users to access RV using their Shotgun username and password.

— Built-in RVX Functionality: RV now includes features previously only available in RVX such as the ability to author image-processing operations – everything from simple color transforms to multi-input compositions and editorial transitions.

— Export using RVIO: Users can now export movies or frame sequences with RVIO while running RV. No need for a separate RVIO license.

Both Shotgun 6 and RV 6 will be demonstrated at NAB 2015 in the Autodesk Booth (SL 3317). Shotgun 6 with RV 6 integration is expected to be available by the end of April with pricing starting at $30 per account/per month with “Awesome” support, or $50 per account/per month with “Super Awesome” support. RV will also continue to be supported as a standalone tool, and pricing for standalone versions of RV, RVIO, and RV-SDI remain the same. Pedigree Found Dogs Online

The fear of losing your dog is universal to all dog owners, but smartphones may now hold the key to finding lost dogs – by outrunning them with digital ads. PEDIGREE®, with the help of Google, want to make lost dogs a thing of the past with their new New Zealand-developed project – ‘Found’. If a dog goes missing, every second counts. PEDIGREE® have created an app that allows dog owners to pre-register their dog. If a dog is lost, the owner can use the app to send out a real time, geo-targeted message to people in the vicinity.

Pedigree Found site

When an owner hits ‘LOST” on the app, a pre-registered ‘lost dog’ advertisement featuring their dog is created and instantly served across the Google Display Network within a 1.5 mile (2.5km) radius of the owner. A push notification is also sent via the app to other owners have who signed up. By instantly sharing a dog’s information to people who are online in the immediate area, and thus the most likely to be able to help, the project seeks to reunite more lost dogs with their owners.

At the heart of this campaign lies one of the oldest forms of digital advertising – digital display banners. In this case, the combination of geo-targeted ads with real-time ad serving means that PEDIGREE® have created a world first – a lost dog poster that can move faster than the lost dogs themselves.

Stephen Hawking Sings Monty Python… Galaxy Song (Music Video)

Monty Python – Galaxy Song
Available to buy now from iTunes – http://po.st/Ed0IKJ

Enjoy our latest video for our new single, “Stephen Hawking Sings Monty Python… Galaxy Song” which is available as a digital download from 13 April, and on limited edition 7” vinyl on Record Store Day 2015.

The song, which is the title track to “Monty Python – The Meaning of Live”, was originally written for the 1983 film, “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life”. It has been re-recorded with the lyrics sung by Professor Stephen Hawking.

Written by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, the song is an intricate and informative lecture on the enormity of the Universe fashioned into a bewitching and, above all, highly amusing pop song.

“Galaxy Song” was previously included on the 1989 album “Monty Python Sings”, and included in the 2014 reissue of the album, “Monty Python Sings (again)”, in its original form – sung by Eric Idle – to coincide with Monty Python’s record breaking “Monty Python Live (mostly) – One Down Five to Go” run of 10 live shows at The O2, London. On film during the live shows, Professor Brian Cox berated the scientific inaccuracy of the “Galaxy Song » lyrics before Professor Stephen Hawking knocked him to the ground. Hawking then began reciting the “Galaxy Song” lyrics as he lifted off to journey through outer space. It is this unique rendition of “Galaxy Song” which is now available as a single.

Why You Should Be Nice, with Stephen Post

Stephen Post discusses the mental and physical benefits of altruistic behavior. Post is the author of Is Ultimate Reality Unlimited Love? (http://goo.gl/T6Qjdx)

Transcript: If you are living a generous other regarding altruistic life, if you are volunteering formally or just being helpful informally, are there benefits to that? And yes, our research has shown that the benefits are significant. So, for example, in one national survey Americans were asked if they volunteered in 2009. So this was a study that began in 2010 so it was looking back a year. Forty-one percent of Americans had volunteered an average of about 100 hours a year which is only two hours a week roughly. So not high thresholds. And then we asked well, did it make you feel physically healthier. Sixty-eight percent said yes. That’s kind of like getting off carbs for a little bit and, you know, feeling more energized. Did it make you feel happier? Ninety-six percent — yes.

Did it make you feel less stressed? Seventy-seven percent — yes. People developed deeper friendships, more meaningful relationships. They had a sense of gratification. They expressed greater resiliency when they experienced problems and tough times in life. So in my view if you could take those kinds of self-reported benefits and put them in a pill, market them at the drugstore, you’d be a billionaire overnight. But the thing is that you don’t really have to do that because if people simply get in touch with that evolved aspect of their being, they tend to benefit from it. So I was asked to give a talk at a group of widows and widowers. There is an association on Long Island of widows and widowers and they wanted to know if the study’s showing it really helps with getting through grief and bereavement if you’re able to report informal helping activities in your environment. I gave a really nice talk and lo and behold, at the end in the Q and A there was a guy in the back and he looked at me and he said, I don’t care what you say, buddy. I don’t do nothin’ for nothin’.

And, you know, there is that mentality that somehow you have to get reciprocal gains for everything you do. It’s all tit for tat. But if you look at the science there are lots of mental and physical benefits. We study AA a lot. We study the 12 steps which is where people in Alcoholics Anonymous help other alcoholics. We discovered that if you have the high quartile of helpers over that first year of sobriety, 40 percent of them stay sober for a whole year. If you have the low quartile of helpers only 22 percent stay sober. So high helping activity in AA where you’re a greeter at the door or you’re handing out literature or giving testimony or just meeting other people in the community who you think might need a little AA support or something like that or being a sponsor. That actually doubles the likelihood of your recovery within a one year period. There are a lot of studies like this now.

Young people, adolescents who are engaged in volunteering show lower risk for cardiovascular disease lifelong. They have lower cholesterol levels, lower stress levels, there are a whole lot of things I can talk about there. But in general it’s good to be good and science says it’s so. So I think that’s been well established and a lot of people jumped on that bandwagon. We were probably the first ones to start working seriously on that or at least among the first. There were other groups but we funded a lot of research in that area, published a lot of important things and now, you know, it’s pretty much the kind of story that you find in Parade Magazine. I call it give and glow or sometimes the giver’s glow. O Magazine did their Christmas article cover piece on the giver’s glow this past year. So it’s caught on in the popular culture. But it’s not a direct motivation. It’s a side effect or a byproduct and I always like to emphasize that you’re helping others because it’s the good thing to do, you know, it’s the golden rule and all of that. But as it turns out in general it’s a very healthy way to go.
