VFX-MONTRÉAL

Wed 1st Oct 2014 | News

The Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC) has launched a brand new website designed specifically to promote Québec’s visual effects industry with foreign and local producers.

VFX-MONTRÉAL brings together 17 companies who are QFTC members known for their talent and expertise in the production of visual effects and animation.

VFX-MONTRÉAL is a user-friendly platform offering a wealth of information for producers. Indeed, the site showcases each studio’s accomplishments and service offering, provides information on tax incentives and offers industry news. The site will also support the sector’s rapid growth through its “I’m looking for a VFX Job” section, positioning Québec as a destination of choice for skilled labour from around the world.

“Several foreign large-scale movie productions have recently chosen Québec for the production of their visual effects. These include X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Hunger Games, Le Petit Prince, The Beauty and the Beast, as well as the series Games of Thrones (winner of the Emmy Award for best VFX last August). In 2013, Québec companies generated over $96 million in visual effect contracts. The creation of our new VFX-MONTRÉAL platform will contribute to further growth for years to come. As secretariat of the audiovisual cluster, the QFTC is proud to have mobilized the industry around this major project,” said Hans Fraikin, general manager and national film commissioner for Québec.

For Benoit Touchette, general manager of Framestore, “VFX-MONTRÉAL demonstrated the engagement of the QFTC and of the visual effects community in Montréal and in Québec, as well the spirit of collaboration found within this community. Whether you are a movie producer or a 3D graphic designer, this site is the foremost reference for your production and career. It’s also the first time a community of visual effects companies gathers together to create such a website. There’s no equivalent anywhere in the world.”

“VFX-MONTRÉAL is a unique resource for those who want to take advantage of Québec artists’ expertise and know-how. Montréal is known worldwide for its corporate creativity. This new website is a window showcasing this talent,” adds Sylvie Talbot, communications manager for Hybride Technologies.

The QFTC wishes to emphasize the unmitigated collaboration of the 17 studios throughout the portal’s creation process.

VFX-MONTRÉAL was launched last night at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, with the support of Montréal International and National Bank.
