‘Kung Fu Panda 3′ readies for a 23 Dec 2015 release

The third installment to one of DreamWork’s Tentpole franchise – Kung Fu Panda – is readying to kick some ass in a 3D action-comedy come 23 December 2015.

The awesome cast of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Huffman, David Cross, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu and Jackie Chan will all be returning to reprise their roles in Kung Fu Panda 3. But, adding some spice to the mix will be newly added cast members Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaid fame), Bryan Cranston (Argo fame), and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), will join the original team.

The Bridesmaid star will be playing Po’s love interest and she seems nothing but excited about her role, sharing on Twitter: “Had my first recording sesh for Kung Fu Panda 3 today… crushed it x.”

Po will be back in the animal action-comedy film, this time around taking on two highly epic threats – one a supernatural phenom and the other that is actually closer to home.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is helmed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, and the duo of Jonathan Aibel & Glenn Berger are on-board as scribes, it is being produced by Melissa Cobb and executively produced by Guillermo del Toro.

Originally scheduled for an 18 March, 2016 release the studio decided to bring it forward to 23 December, 2015. With the franchise being highly popular, the release time won’t really matter much to the feature, though DreamWorks has always released the Tentpole during the summers, let’s see how this strategy plays out.

Fedor Bondarchuk to helm Warner Bros.’ Greek Epic ‘Odysseus’

Warner Bros. studios has hired Russia’s Fedor Bondarchuk to direct their large-scale take on Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. Bondarchuk is the son of Oscar-winning helmer Sergey Bondarchuk, is an actor, producer and on-air host who last fall directed Stalingrad.

The Odyssey also knows as Ulysses to 80’s cartoon fans, is a story about the Greek king who returns after a decade away fighting the Trojan War; encountering many perils and mythical beasts, including the Cyclops Polyphemus. The character was actually played by Sean Bean in the movie Troy, though that adaptation removed all fantasy elements from the story.

Jeremy Doner is scripting for the same. Hollywood Gang’s Gianni Nunnari is producing along with Bernie Goldmann and Shannon Gaulding. Bondarchuk has partnered with Michael Schlicht and Paul Heth as well as Niija Kuykendall and Jon Gonda who are overseeing for the studio.

US-Indo Collaboration on International Venture to Produce animated version of ‘The Bremen Town Musicians’

Chennai-based film producer and director Prabhakaran Hari Haran and California-based producer and director Kevin Richardson, have inked a deal to put Richardson’s animated adaptation of ‘The Bremen Town Musicians’ into pre-production.

“It’s been seven years in development,” smiles Richardson, “which seems to be the magic number.” Hari and Richardson begin animatic production in August with an India and USA team. “After productive meetings and positive feedback, we’re looking forward to this important step,” he added.  The deal locks in $ 1.5 million for pre-production and a guarantee of $ 45 million for production.

“We’ve been looking for an international project to get behind,” says Hari who belongs to a prominent family of the Indian cinema, and is building an animation unit for this movie.  “Richardson’s script is a warm-hearted adaptation that preserves the original story, and blows it out in surprising ways.” Hari’s great grandfather veteran actor, M R Radha, was one of the defining faces of Indian cinema. Building from this legacy, Hari always wanted to take his company global and this movie is the first step towards it.

Haricane Studios business head Dhivya Venugopal adds: “Universal stories with extraordinary outcomes always connect with global audiences. Our meetings with studios in Hollywood confirm this. We are very excited at the potential of this venture.”

Richardson, a California Institute of the Arts Animation Alum worked in the USA and abroad on productions of Hanna-Barbera, Industrial Light and Magic, and Disney’s Brave Little Toaster. In Europe, Richardson partnered on productions with French partners Didier Brunner (The Secret of Kells) and British partner John Coates (The Snowman) under the MEDIA program of the European community before returning to the USA to produce games for Mattel, EA and Nickelodeon.

“After a ton of games I wanted to jump back into film. I’m passionate about stories with a large musical component and a strong ensemble. The Bremen Town Musicians is exactly that recipe. There is no denying the magic when east meets west,” adds Hari. “It has always yielded great results. I’m sure this collaboration will be one such affair, which we feel will be etched forever in people’s hearts.”

Mike Edel: “The Closer”

“The Closer” is a new song by Mike Edel and a music video created out of collaboration with Jorge R. Canedo Estrada, Henrique Barone, Thanat Sattavorn, Cesar Martinez and Breno Licursi.

The song tells a story inspired by Edel’s own life:

It’s a story about a pitcher in a small town, a lot like the one I grew up in, who is pitching a perfect game into the 9th inning. But his mom runs onto the mound and tells him that he needs to leave the game because his dad has had a farming accident. So the coach brings in the closer with a 2-0 lead in the 9th inning. He gives up a walk. Then a single. Then a home-run. They lose the game 3-2 in the 9th.

Despite that bummer ending, it’s an oddly uplifting music video.

Everything moves to the rhythm of the “+” , the Channel icon, that sets the pacing, guides us through the navigation pieces and discover the extensive Canal + grid.

The design system echoes current GUI trends in its use of thumbnail grids, chat-like dialogue bubbles and even the suggestion of swipe-based interactions via the animation of the small plus sign element. Expressive emoticons add a touch of humor and work well as tagging devices for different genres of content.
