Plurabelle – Our Fires

Plurabelle – Our Fires (edit by Mattis Dovier) http://stellarkinematics.bandcamp.com/track/b3-our-fires Drawings, animation and editing by Mattis Dovier Music by Plurabelle ’Our Fires’ from Phantom Pyramid LP out on june 16th on Stellar Kinematics. Digital LP and/or Vinyl LP Limited to 300 copies : http://stellarkinematics.bandcamp.com/album/phantom-pyramid Produced by Stellar Kinematics : http://www.stellarkinematics.com/ Premiered on Vice/Noisey : In addition to pixel art and frame by frame animation, graphics in this video are based on various influences. The main ones arise from the underground manga, especially Maruo Suehiro’s “ero-guro” or erotic-grotesque style (to name one), that mixes both horror and erotic genres. Human passions such as love and violence become exacerbated to their climax, making the man look like a crazy and decadent animal, the whole thing taking the form of a macabre poetry. Adolescence, embodied by the mutation into a monstrous beast, is a tribute to B-movies, drawing references from John Carpenter’s or illustrator Charles Burns’ universes. Symbolism in the transition into adulthood is seen as a rite of passage, requiring the death of a human being and the birth of another. The hauting mystical song immerses us inexorably into the intricacies of this transformation you can’t avoid, whatever you do.

Better yet, just watch the video again and enjoy the experience from the safety of your desk 🙂

Project inspiration: This was an original idea, and I’m not sure anything quite like this has been done on YouTube before? Maybe it has, maybe it hasn’t .. but I thought it would be really cool to put out a video for 4th of July showcasing some insane tricks for summer parties. Then I imagined how awesome it would be if some of my favorite YouTubers got involved.

This was a challenging and exhilarating video to put together. It is the culmination of months of creative effort, and managing hundreds of little details to come together just in the nick of time. I’m really happy with how this turned out, and so excited at all my YouTube friends that accepted the challenge and came together to make this happen.

Each person involved made a separate video that they’ve posted on their channel. I’ve collected all of these videos into a playlist that you can see here: http://bit.ly/MegaCollabPlaylist

These are my favorite YouTubers. The ones I never miss seeing a video from, so if you like my videos, I’d like to recommend each of them for your consideration. 😀

Sharing this video is the highest compliment. Thank you!

Mike Edel's The Closer

Mike Edel’s The Closer Created by: Mike Edel, Jorge R. These rural, simple and hardworking people sit patiently by their fires and wait for summer, a summer that is always short and hot. When I was 6, I would jump into the backseat of my dad’s pickup truck as he would drive my brother, Jamie, all over the country to his baseball games. I loved baseball. I loved baseball almost as much as them. I would stand beside my friend Ryan and we would watch the game and watch our brothers and look through the chain link fence with our young keen eyes. We saw the balls, the strikes, the out’s and the coach’s walk to mound; but what we waited for was the foul balls. If a foul ball flew over the fence, Ryan and I would sprint like outfielders to track it down in a race that was always even because we both got our fair share of foul balls as far as I can remember. With the ball in one of our gloves, we would saunter over to a little white shack that always needed a paint job and the old Mrs. Claus looking lady at the concession stand would hold out her big soft hand and we place the ball into it like we were at a carnival. With her other hand she handed us a quarter. We would hand it straight back to her for 2 licorice’s and chew them all the way back to the chain link fence. I loved baseball. My dad also loved baseball. He would be the guy that sat on the bleachers holding one of those baseball scorebooks, the one with the coils all down one side and with a thousand little baseball diamond pictures inside where he would translate the game into this picture language. He must be really good at remember pictures because he would keep the score in this book game after game, and there were lots of them, and now at 67 years old he still remembers all these plays in the baseball game. My brother hit a triple down the right field line to drive in 3 with the bases loaded in Oyen to win a Provincial game. Another time, with runners on first and second Jamie caught a line drive, stepped on second and overthrew the neighbor kid (Shawn Gorr) at first only to cover the bag and get all 3 outs by himself. My dad remembers this. I wrote a song called The Closer. It’s a story about a pitcher in a small town, a lot like the one I grew up in, who is pitching a perfect game into the 9th inning. But his mom runs onto the mound and tells him that he needs to leave the game because his dad has had a farming accident. So the coach brings in the closer with a 2-0 lead in the 9th inning. He gives up a walk. Then a single. Then a home-run. They lose the game 3-2 in the 9th. I think that sometimes we think that these small moments in small towns don’t matter, but the truth is that they do. The baseball diamonds, and the hockey rinks and the community centers are the theaters where life takes place for these people. They are the stages that hold the metaphors for the joys and the tragedy’s of simple life. Everybody comes in the heat of a short summer and sits there, cheering and groaning and feeling joy and heartbreak together. And they all love baseball. www.mikeedel.com instagram.com/mikeedel twitter.com/mikeedelmusic facebook.com/thelastofourmountains www.jrcanest.co www.henriquebarone.com behance.net/eldiablo www.armmotion.com instagram.com/brnemo

‘Beyond the Boundary’ feature film set for a Spring 2015 release

The official website for Kyoto Animation‘s Beyond the Boundary (Kyōkai no Kanata) anime series announced on Wednesday that the series will get an anime film in spring 2015. The same announcement was made in the seventh Blu-ray Disc volume of the television series as well.

The dark fantasy follows a high school second-year student named Akihito Kanbara (KENN). Although the boy appears human, he is half Yōmu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets first-year student Mirai Kuriyama (Risa Taneda) when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among the Under World Warriors. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.

The television anime premiered in Japan in October and Crunchyroll streamed the anime into several countries as it aired. Sentai Filmworks also announced in October that it licensed the anime for North America.
