Amazing in Motion – Swarm Director's Cut

AMAZING IN MOTION
http://www.lexus-int.com/amazinginmotion/swarm/

‘Swarm’ is the result of cutting edge technology combined with imagination and
creativity.

Executed in collaboration with KMel robotics, and directed by Sam Brown, Swarm’ takes advanced quadrotor technology out of the testing laboratory and into the real world, to produce a dramatic and engaging story. These unique quadrotors were inspired by the design and material principles of Lexus and constructed to an incredible level of detail and precision. Advanced motion capture camera technology is then used to programme the complex movement paths of each quadrotor, resulting in the stunning movement patterns seen in the film.

‘Swarm’ is the second Amazing in Motion project from Lexus. Visit amazinginmotion.com to experience the full story behind ‘Swarm’ and to see the first Amazing in Motion project ‘Steps’.

Amazing in Motion – 'Steps'

‘Steps’ is the story of an 11-foot figure moving through the city in search of something special.

Directed by Daniel Kleinman, the aim of ‘Steps’ was to explore human motion in a different way. The figures featured were the result of painstaking hand craftsmanship combined with state of the art innovation, a balance of the organic human shape and technical precision where the story of their design was a story of a leap into the unknown.
Standing over 11 feet tall, each figure required 5 puppeteers all working in perfect harmony. The result was a human story that was truly Amazing In Motion.

THE STEPS TO ‘STEPS’
The process of creating the figures was an incredible one. We’ve created a website that includes documentary films about the design and performance behind the figures, along with behind the scenes photo galleries and interactive experiences that bring you closer to the figures and the process that brought them to life.

Amazing in Motion – STROBE

STROBE showcases Lexus’ innovative design and technology through imagination.

Directed by Adam Berg, STROBE features stunt men and acrobatic performers in advanced LED light suits to tell the story of one man’s incredible journey across the Kuala Lumpur skyline at night.

The bespoke suits were conceived by Hollywood costume designer Vin Burnham and technical director Adam Wright — taking design cues from Lexus vehicles, including the iconic spindle grille and LED headlights.

A purpose built computer system and complex DMX software was created to wirelessly trigger the suits to strobe on demand, producing the breathtaking display seen in the film.

STROBE is the third in the Amazing in Motion project series by Lexus. Visit amazinginmotion.com to experience the full story behind STROBE and to see the other Amazing in Motion projects.

Lost In Taiwan

The proper and justifiable country to pay homage to the Cyberpunk genre would definitely be Japan. Though I really doubt I would be visiting Japan again anytime soon and exploiting this genre was on the ‘to do list’. Taiwan on the other hand has her fair share of neon lights, dark motifs and loud colours. Accompanied by a virtual theme prevalent in the cities’ urbanization, Taiwan to me felt like a pre-modernized Japan. Walking in Keelung (Taipei) felt like stepping into a scene from Spirited Away (Miyazaki). This fact also goes in tandem with Taiwan’s less polished culture which might have resulted in it’s people being more endearing and affectionate. Despite it’s extremely erratic weather, Taiwan was a pleasure. Great people, great conversations, great night-life and most importantly great food. I hope you enjoy my very own version of Bladerunner. Ellen DeGeneres and Chris Burch to Create E.D., a Fully Conceived Lifestyle Collection

Award-winning entertainer Ellen DeGeneres and J. Christopher Burch, founder of C. Wonder and CEO of Burch Creative Capital, has announced the formation of a joint partnership to create and sell E.D., a new collection designed by DeGeneres.

E.D. will offer an array of product categories including home, ready-to-wear, accessories, and pets. First to launch will be a capsule collection of direct-to-consumer home items for Holiday 2014 followed by a full collection launch at retail for Spring 2015.

Commenting on the venture Ellen DeGeneres said: “I’m so excited to work with Chris and our incredibly talented team on this new venture. I’ve always wanted to launch a line of home goods, clothing and accessories. I already get to be inside people’s living rooms with my show. Now I get to be in their kitchens, in their beds, and in their pants. Wait. That’s not what I meant.”

This partnership has created a new paradigm for celebrity-based collections. Both DeGeneres and Burch are equally invested, with DeGeneres providing creative direction and Burch bringing manufacturing and brand development expertise. Additionally, the new company has many highly experienced retail and brand experts in management and board leadership positions including Michael Francis, chief global brand officer, DreamWorks Animation and former Global CMO of Target; Marisa Gardini, managing partner of E.D. and former president & CEO of Isaac Mizrahi; and Janet Grove, former corporate vice chairman of Macy’s Inc. and chairman and CEO of Macy’s Merchandising Group.

“This entire collaboration came together so serendipitously. None of us were looking for a new business opportunity, but it’s such a rare occurrence to meet amazing people with like minds and great chemistry, we just knew we had to work together. And on top of it all, Ellen is not only an extraordinary human being, but she also has an amazing eye. From her homes to her art to the set of her television show, her style informs everything in her life. The products she is developing are, in and of themselves, fabulous. Her indelible sense of style, coupled with her incredible social reach and enthusiasm, make her a wonderful partner,” J. Christopher Burch added.

A website will be developed and launched soon. Products will be available through wholesale and retail channels, as well as direct to consumer.
