m2ts format to mov

Hi guys,

does anyone know a good program which can transcode the consumer file format called .m2ts to something like .mov ?

I tried some free programs which seemed to work fine but after testing, Quicktime couldn’t work with the encoded .mov’s …

Would be nice if anyone could tell me a prog which is for free and works just fine 🙂 … there are a bunch of progs which work but they cost money ^^

thanks and cheers 🙂

Planet of the Apes head?

Hi, I posted this at cgtalk but I should’ve posted it here. My 3d skills go about as far as Sketchup so go easy on the jargon. 🙂 I’d like to know what would be involved in replacing an actor’s head with a Planet of the Apes kind of head, the kind of thing you couldn’t do with a mask (like a gorilla’s degree of prognathicity and a mouth, tongue, lips and teeth that work like they’re supposed to, mainly). From what I can gather you’d matchmove the camera (ideally you’d track the camera during filming) and use facial mocap performance to animate the ape head model. Right? Can anyone talk about this in more detail, maybe give a guess on man-hours per second for a typical shot (like dialog in a static medium shot), leaving out the time to create the model and render? Assuming you wanted to do a really top-notch job I mean. Guess on a budget wouldn’t hurt, even totally ball park would be nice.

TIA.

Transfering frame numbers

Any chance to set up a fileOut that way thta it’s starts to increment not with frame 0 but with the same number like the first frame in the fileIn?

I don’t need suggestion for a renumbering tool(I’m using oe right now).

Any pointers welcome, thanks in advance.

VFX PAID WORK – 3D artist/designer/modeller for music video project UK (green screen)

Hi,

We are looking for a 3D artist, designer, character designer, modeller, etc for a music video project, shot entirely on green screen.

The music video has a futuristic theme; blade runner, alien, etc. A considerable amount of VFX work has already been done.

The music video will be broadcast (on TV) in the UK, India and Canada, the artist is an established (signed) producer. Your work will be broadcast and you will be given a credit, etc.

The director is also very established and known within the industry (not Hollywood).

We need help to complete the backgrounds, 3D models and animation.

We are based in the UK. This is paid work, however we are already over budget so this job won’t be paying thousands of pounds, a fee will be negotiated.

We are looking for someone who wants a ‘break’ or an opportunity. Looking to find someone who is eager and hard working and looking for an opportunity most importantly. We have several other videos that need VFX work after this one, so if you fit in well you could join our creative team and more work will follow.

If you are interested in getting involved please contact me with your information, show reel, work you have done, location, interests, etc.

About the industry.

Greetings! First time poster, long time reader. I am from Canada, 21 years old and looking forward to starting a career in Visual Effects(Compositing). Being that I frequently visit this site for information about the industry, I have realized that it is difficult to enter and maintain employment and that it has outsourced a lot of its work to other countries. Luckily one of those countries is Canada. I have heard that VFX workers are often treated poorly in the USA… little job security, long and hard hours for income that almost seems to be less than worth it. What I was wondering was, what is this industry like for Canadians? Do they have a different approach and a better structure for this to be a desirable career choice? Is there an increase in job oppourtunities and will this remain consistant? If anybody can tell me anything about what the industry is like up here in the North I would most certainly be thankful and I can stop hesistating on beginning my lessons on compositing!
Many thanks!
