Anamorphic footage in Boujou

Hey all,

I’ve looked through the documentation and can’t seem to find anything about this. When I bring anamorphic footage into Boujou, it displays as squeezed in the viewer. Is there a way to correct for pixel aspect ratio in the viewer?

Wings WIP

Hello all, this is a WIP of a project I am doing. The wings and rig were done by a few friends of mine, and its my job to track the wings in, texture, and integrate them into the scene. The background(windows) is also being replaced and I have it roto’ed, however there is no BG yet so I am just posting an older version.

Any comments/feedback is welcome.

Twenty120 NYC Premiere

twenty120
One can easily say that motion graphics has become one of the most tantalizing careers for the creative minded. The opportunity to make art utilizing design, illustration, animation and sound as mixed medium is an easy sell for any artistic person. Which is why this little industry of ours has drawn some of the best creatives in the world. The only snag, this art form’s foundation is built entirely around advertising. Although the challenge of designing to sell can be a thrill, in the end, the purity of our ideas become diluted by the needs of the client and a myriad of other factors. This hurdle is one a fine artist normally does not have to overcome.

Almost as a reaction to this, festivals and collaborative projects have emerged that give the creatives in this industry an opportunity to take their artistic energy and focus it on their own personal work.

One such independent film series is Twenty120, which invites 20 filmmakers to create two minute films on a given theme.

Here at Motionographer we see a need to embrace independent film collections like Twenty120 that give all of us a venue to channel our creative desires. As a result we are excited to sponsor the NYC premiere of this years Twenty120 films to be shown on August 27th at the Art Directors Club presented by MassMarket and Click 3x.

Also, in this coming week we will be releasing limited free tickets to those who are in the neighborhood and want to come down to see the event, drink some free beer and mingle with the directors. We will also be doing an interview with Connor Swegle and Rich Rama, the two men in charge of Twenty120. Stay tuned for more details on the 3rd annual premiere of Twenty120.

Escape Studios visual effects scholarships up for grabs

Skillset funding of Escape Studios course provides places for up-and-coming CG artists

Scholarships for twelve aspiring Visual Effects artists have been put up for grabs by computer graphics academy Escape Studios for its visual effects (VFX) course. Thanks to new funding from the Skillset Film Skills Fund, twelve individuals will receive 100 per cent subsidised places on the prestigious course. At the end of the course the attendees will go on a four-week industry placement, also funded by the investment.

Dominic Davenport, CEO at Escape Studios said “This is a fantastic opportunity for twelve talented and enthusiastic individuals to take their first steps to securing a place in the computer graphics industry. It can take years to develop the skills these lucky students will be taught in a matter of months, and we are looking for those with a passion for computer graphics and a desire to succeed.”

Neil Peplow, Director of Film at Skillset, the training body for the UK creative industries, said: “Our research shows that the industry needs more highly trained new entrants in the crucial field of visual effects. The UK attracts high levels of international productions choosing to do their post-production here because of the exceptional quality of our workforce. Schemes like this will help ensure that this continues."

The Skillset Visual Effects course will offer a combination of practical training and industry work experience, providing participants not only with an education but with the skills and confidence to secure future employment. Participants will receive training in the use of Maya and Nuke and learn all of the camera tracking, lighting and compositing skills needed to create fully integrated visual effects shots to a professional standard.

Davenport continues, “It’s critical that people who attend Escape Studios not only learn key skills but know how to turn these skills into a professional career. Too often education is simply an accumulation of knowledge, with little indication of how skills can be transferred into the real world of work. That’s why attendees on the Skillset course receive eighteen weeks of solid contact time with Escape’s industry experienced tutors, and also get out into the world of work afterwards with a four week placement. This allows graduates to see what’s required by post production houses, and build useful contacts in the industry.”

Stephen Tew took part in last year’s Skillset VFX course, and now works at Framestore. “Getting on the Escape Studios’ course really helped accelerate my career. It gave me a host of skills that could take years to learn otherwise, and helped me secure my current employment.”

The course starts on 28th September and runs for 18 weeks followed by the month long placement, with a three week break over Christmas and New Year. Potential applicants should visit the Skillset page on Escape Studios’ website: www.escapestudios.com/skillset

Animazoo supplies Chechnya’s first motion capture system

Animazoo is proud to announce the installation of a fully equipped animation studio using an IGS-190 motion capture system at the PUT Publishing House; a new Ministry of Culture initiative in the town of Gudermes situated near Chechnya’s capital Grozny.
The IGS-190 full body motion capture suit and the animation studio installation generated a host of local and national media excitement and is expected to revolutionize the way animation is made in the country. Magomed Elgarayev, acting head of the PUT Publishing House claims that the studio, with its brand-new equipment now has ‘no rivals’ in Russia. Elgarayev investigated a number of motion capture systems before choosing the IGS-190; with its excellent data capture and reliability he considered it to be ‘the best in the world’ for his motion capture based projects. Having Russian, French, Spanish and Italian speaking support staff at Animazoo was also a point not lost by people who might need plenty of after sales support.

PUT Publishing will utilise the IGS-190’s patented inertial motion capture technology immediately to generate new and original creative 3D work beginning with a series of animated films focusing on the traditions, culture and customs of the Chechen people. "There is no shortage of scripts" says Elgarayev, who does not seem surprised by the Chechen creative community’s enthusiasm for the studio’s future work.
Ali Kord, Technical Director of Animazoo had this to say. ‘I am so excited for them. We have set them up from A to Z of the pipeline they need to produce all types of animation. They just love the fact that they can produce custom-made original animation instead of buying second hand ones that have clearly been dubbed’.
Larissa Vyborgova, Director of Russian established animation company Studio Mult wishes Elgarayev and his creative teams the best of success with the new equipment and says motion capture is ‘only the tip’ of what is now possible for PUT Publishing.
