Beautiful Titles: The Happiness of the Katakuris

What can you say about this title sequence that will do it justice? There is so much beauty in its stop-motion bizarreness. Having said that, I wouldn’t expect anything less from acclaimed Japanese director of horror and strangeness, Takashi Miike. All I can suggest is that you let go of regular conventions, take a look and get ready for a roller-coaster ride!

On a side note, if you have a spare weekend, rent out some of Miike’s movies, in particular Audition, and my personal favourite, Ichi the Killer (in which the titles involve various male-only fluids!).

Scrabble: The Beautiful Word

It’s so refreshing when companies go against the norm, and Scrabble / Mattel certainly did that. In fact they did that and a bag of chips, they went balls-out crazy! With the current economic climate it’s nice to see a company leaving the well trodden path of safe, forgettable advertising. The whole point of an advert is to stick in your mind, and these will laser etch onto your frontal lobe right down to the cerebellum! Admittedly I would never of guessed the product, but they encapsulated me enough to stick it out until the end, and left me hungry for more.
A big pat on the back for Mattel and Paris based agency Ogilvy & Mather.

Beautiful Title Sequences: The Fall

The Fall

Here at Motionographer Towers, we’ve decided to kick off a mini-series of what we consider to be truly beautiful title sequences. Rather than limiting ourselves to something that is strictly motion graphics or design related, we are focusing on the overall imagery. Naturally, this is all completely subjective, and one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure.

Anyway, without further ado, I present for your collective consideration, the title sequence to The Fall. I often think that slow motion is becoming a bit over-used, but that’s far from the case here. When in the right hands, it can turn chaos into tranquility.

Under the watchful eye of Tarsem Singh, Stefan G. Bucher also added subtle art deco typography that truly compliments the stunning cinematography.
