Sweetie combats online predators

Terres Des Hommes, an international children’s aid organisation based in The Netherlands, has won the Grand Prix for Good and Five Gold Lions for Direct, Promo & Activation and PR at Cannes International Festival for “Sweetie”, a virtual 10-year-old Filipino girl created catch online predators. Sweetie was designed to raise awareness of the growth of webcam child sex tourism in which men from rich countries pay children in poor countries to perform sexual acts in front of webcams. Using a 3D digital display, members of TDH constructed Sweetie and put her into online chat rooms. Over the next 10 weeks, 20,000 predators approached Sweetie, asking her to perform sexual acts on video. While the pedophiles chatted with Sweetie, researchers used basic research techniques to find information about them. Their dossiers were then handed over to Interpol. Webcam Child Sex Tourism is now becoming a globally recognized problem. Governments are changing policies. Arrests have been made. Children have been rescued. See more at Terres Des Hommes.
