‘Chernobyl’ bags another award for VFX

On the heels of the Emmy Award win last month for ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role’, ‘Chernobyl’ was honored recently with the title of ‘Best VFX Project’ at the inaugural Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards in London.

VFX Supervisor Max Dennison and Producer Clare Cheetam were in attendance to pick up the trophy.

“The real winners are our DNEG TV teams in London, Mumbai and Chennai who worked on this project. It was great to be a part of the first-ever Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards, and it is wonderful to see ‘Chernobyl’ being recognised once again for a job well done by our talented people,” said Dennison

A five-part miniseries co-production from HBO and Sky, ‘Chernobyl’ depicts the series of catastrophic events that took place in 1986, threatening the whole of Europe. The series explores the scale and the humanity of one of history’s most famous disasters, recounting the losses and sacrifices of those who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Marvel partners with SiriusXM to create original podcasts

SiriusXM and Marvel announced a multi-year agreement under which Marvel will create a substantial amount of exclusive podcasts for SiriusXM and Pandora. In Marvel’s most sweeping podcast deal ever, the venture will include both scripted and unscripted series, themed live events, and much more, premiering in 2020. SiriusXM and Pandora will also debut many of Marvel’s most popular podcasts before they can be heard anywhere else.

Included in the slate of upcoming programming are four new scripted series, each ten episodes, based around the iconic characters of Wolverine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Star-Lord, as well as a fifth series in which all four team up; unscripted podcasts that look at Marvel’s rich history through a modern-day lens of pop culture; podcasts dedicated to popular Marvel franchises; and regular talk shows, including an interview show that will feature famous celebrity guests.

SiriusXM and Marvel launched their first joint initiative in August with an all-new exclusive music station and channel “Marvel’s 80th: The Road to Marvel Comics #1000,” which was available on SiriusXM for a limited run, as well as through its streaming platform and On Demand, and also on the Pandora mobile app. Celebrating the 1000th issue of Marvel comics as well as the company’s 80th anniversary, the programming was a sonic time-warp experience that included an 80-song station playing a track from every year of Marvel’s illustrious history, each connected to a page of the Marvel #1000 issue.

Once available, SiriusXM subscribers with streaming access can listen to all Marvel podcasts at home on a wide variety of connected devices including smart TVs, Amazon Alexa devices, Apple TV, Sony PlayStation, Roku, Sonos speakers and more.  Pandora users on both free ad-supported and Premium subscription tiers of service will also be able to hear all Marvel podcasts on the Pandora mobile app for iOS and Android.

Tahnaji: The Unsung Warrior set to a VFX-rich biopic

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior was recently released and the movie is set to be a visual extravaganza with action sequences and grand locations to depict the life story of Tanaji Malushare.

Movies based on historical legends and period dramas portraying the valour have been the winning flavour for Bollywood for the last couple of years.

Speaking to AnimationXpress, NYVFXWAALA Business head Yogesh Chagg informed, “The movie is in the pipeline and it’s set to be big on the VFX front.”


Ajay’s Tanhaji will essay the role of Maratha commander Tanaji Malusare, who was celebrated for his part in the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 AD. Directed by Om Raut, the film will see Kajol reunite with Ajay on-screen almost after a decade, where she will play the role of Tanaji’s wife.

Poised to be Actor Ajay Devgn’s pet project, the movie will contain heavy VFX shots done by his own in-house VFX studio, NYVFXWAALA

The film also stars Sharad Kelkar, Jagapathi Babu, Devdutta Nage, Pankaj Tripathi, Neha Sharma, Ajinkya Deo, Kailash Waghmare, Hardik Sangani, Luke Kenny, and Vipul Gupta.

British Academy Children’s Awards 2019 nominations announced

The nominees for the present year’s British Academy Children’s Awards (BAFTA), which honours the very best in children’s media, was announced on 23 October. The Awards are slated to take place at The Brewery, London, on Sunday 1 December. Being one of the most  prestigious awards, BAFTA is a much awaited award of the year. Netflix collaborates with eight Indian stand-up comedians for its original comic slate

Netflix has teamed up with eight Indian stand-up comedians, including the likes of Vir Das, Kenny Sebastian and Amit Tandon, to create a diverse set of comic acts in different formats and multiple languages.

Slated for release over the next few months, the shows will focus on their humourous perspectives on a wide range of topics and situations. Apart from Das, Sebastian and Tandon, Kanan Gill, Kaneez Surka, Prashasti Singh, Niveditha Prakasham and Supriya Joshi are also brought on board by the streaming giant.

Nickelodeon Universe theme park to open at American Dream Mall

Nickelodeon Universe, the largest indoor theme park on the continent, is finally opening in New Jersey on 25 October. Inspired by the children’s network, the 8.5 acre theme park will is opening at the interactive American Dream mall in East Rutherford.

Featuring about 35 rides, roller coasters, and other attractions, the theme park also includes Shellraiser roller coaster with a 122-foot drop. Nickelodeon Universe will also have Slime Stage and tons of your favorite characters hanging around, including the big dogs of the channel: Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

In 2018, a news release from New Jersey governor Phil Murphy said the $5 billion project created more than 23,000 jobs during its construction. Murphy said the project is estimated to create more than 16,000 permanent new jobs on site and over 6,700 jobs in the surrounding communities.

In the coming weeks, more attractions will open at American Dream, including DreamWorks water park and an indoor snow park.
