Nickelodeon talks about Anti Bullying this month under its Together For Good campaign

Nickelodeon urges one and all to ‘Stand Up!’ and ‘Be Heard’ about Anti Bullying this month.

A study by Punjab University’s department of psychology, stated that a staggering 77 per cent of school children in India is reported being a victim of online or offline bullying, compared to 50 percent in the UK and 65 percent in France. Children being bullied in their formative years is a grave issue that often tends to affect their mental health. If left unattended, the effects can damage the overall abilities of the child for the rest of his/ her life.

October being the Anti Bullying month, Nickelodeon under its ‘Together for Good’ campaign will spread awareness about this serious issue of bullying in schools. It will educate people about what constitutes bullying and what action kids should take to avoid the same.

With the help of its digital and social media reach, the channel aims to encourage children to speak up and talk to their parents or mentors if they were or are being bullied. The campaign is curated with interactive pictures where Superkid-Shiva champions how to stand up against bullying in different environments. Daaduji – Nickelodeon’s newest IP also gives out lessons of how bullying can be curbed and creating a safe environment for kids.

The ‘Together For Good’ campaign was introduced earlier this year with the thought of ‘Say No to Fear and Yes to Safety’, reaching out to 40 million viewers with friendly yet informative videos. This initiative has received lot of praises from the media fraternity, industry honchos, Bollywood and TV celebrities who’ve also spoken against bullying and promoting child safety.

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ character trailer reveals secrets, setting fans abuzz

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has released a trailer featuring the dark wizard who returns to menace Newt Scamander and friends in the Harry Potter prequel.

“The crimes of Grindelwald have been crimes of violence and terror. But we also see his immense seductive power,” said Harry Potter author and Fantastic Beasts screenwriter J.K. Rowling, in an interview given to Comicbook.

Johnny Depp characterises his charming and ruthless Grindelwald as a powerful manipulative menace to the world. He’s convinced that the only way forward is total domination over the people as shown in the trailer.

“Much like his eventual successor Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), Grindelwald prizes the ascension of wizards and witches over muggles and now seeks to rally all power into his camp”, commented actor Ezra Miller in the same interview.

A younger Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) has to manoeuvre to try and stop Grindelwald’s rise prefacing their complex, long-standing relationship.

During their very first conversation in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Dumbledore tells Harry that he sees himself holding a pair of thick, woollen socks when he looks in the Mirror of Erised. However, as J.K. Rowling’s series progressed, it became clear that Dumbledore’s deepest desire probably had little to do with cosy foot accessories.

In the final trailer for the forthcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second instalment in the planned five-film series, Dumbledore is shown pulling a sheet off of the Mirror and gazing into it.

It appears that fans may finally get to see what the magical mirror truly showed Hogwarts’ most beloved headmaster.

Casting the Pirates of the Caribbean star proved a bit tricky for Warner Bros. studio in the light of domestic abuse accusations made by Depp’s ex-wife, Aquaman star Amber Heard, who alleged Depp physically and emotionally abused her.

Rowling and director David Yates defended Depp, saying the filmmakers were comfortable and happy having Depp on board in a major role, a position that in turn saw Rowling excoriated and disowned by disappointed Harry Potter fans.

Depp mentioned to EW, “I’ll be honest with you, I felt bad for J.K. having to field all these various feelings from people out there. I felt bad that she had to take that. But ultimately, there is a real controversy. The fact remains I was falsely accused, which is why I’m suing the Sun newspaper for defamation for repeating false accusations. Rowling. has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused, and that’s why she has publicly supported me. She doesn’t take things lightly. She would not stand up if she didn’t know the truth. So that’s really it.”

Depp has since confirmed he’ll return in the third Fantastic Beasts, already slated for 20 November, 2020, again written by Rowling and directed by Yates.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens 16 November.

#FeatureFriday: Fabulous at 44: The purring journey of Hello Kitty till date

Have you ever wondered what is the reason behind the cuteness of cartoon characters? It is general human psychology to get attached and obsessed to babies, or anything cute and adorable. Now when brands smartly put that element of cuteness in their products, the business becomes more profitable.

Hello Kitty is one such cartoon character who is mouthless, yet her cuteness and popularity is in billions. She is a five-year-old girl who appeared in the pink dreamy world, which every girl has fantasised once in a lifetime. The good news is that Hello Kitty who’s not so young anymore and definitely not a little girl, is turning 44 this year on 1 November 2018. With every passing birthday, Hello Kitty has  grown in years and experience by exploring new things.

Counting on her journey, most people are oblivious to the fact that Hello Kitty, designed by Yuko Shimizu, was actually for a print on merchandise of Shintaro Tsuji’s brand Sanrio. For the aesthetic cuteness it did not appear like a cartoon character initially. Yes, you heard it right!

In 1962, Tsuji noticed the profits had increased because of that adorable design on the sandals. So he hired cartoonists to design cute adorable characters for his merchandise. Hello Kitty was one of those characters which was added to the line-up of early Sanrio characters in 1974. The character first appeared on a vinyl coin purse in Japan and since then, the journey has been unstoppable.

Coming back to why Hello Kitty is mouthless? Well, she appeared with a blank expression because the creator aimed to make her emotions ambiguous so that one can project their own emotions on it accordingly. For example, if one feels sad then Hello Kitty will be sad too, same as with your happy self or angry self.

This mouth less character has raised many controversies and myths over the years. Many people believed that initially Hello Kitty evolved with various myths like it’s a cat or Kitty means demon (so whoever buys Hello Kitty merchandise are welcoming demon). Whereas the Sanrio owner said Hello Kitty is a cheerful and happy little girl with a heart of gold. A lot of confusion? So, keeping everything aside, the first impression of Hello Kitty, perhaps, is a cute character who can become every little girl’s best friend. This is what made her so popular.

Hello Kitty also known by her full name Kitty White, is a cartoon character created by Shimizu and is currently designed by Yuko Yamaguchi. Since the time she appeared, she aimed at the pre-adolescent female market, the diversity in the Hello Kitty products has expanded massively over the years. A bullet train in Japan is named after her and it goes all the way from dolls, stickers, greeting cards, clothes, accessories, school supplies and stationery to purses, toasters, televisions, other home appliances, massagers, and computer equipment. These products range from mass market items to high-end consumer products and rare collectibles.

As she grew up with time, the initial label of pre-teen audience has widened up with the targeted market including teens and adults as a retro brand in 1990. According to Sanrio, in 1999 Hello Kitty appeared on 12,000 different products yearly. By 2008, Hello Kitty was responsible for half of Sanrio’s $1 billion in revenue and there were over 50,000 different Hello Kitty branded products in more than 60 countries.

Beginning in 2007, following trends in Japan, Sanrio began using darker designs for Hello Kitty with more black and less pink and pulling away from kawaii styles. From expensive diamond jewellery to restaurants, Hello Kitty has been everywhere. Considering 2018, Puma collaborated with Hello Kitty to create the new Puma X Hello Kitty for all time collection, which features the company’s signature sneakers for both children and adults. Not only that, it has also teamed up with e-tailer ASOS for a wide range of Hello Kitty collection.

If you think this is it about Hello Kitty, then you are wrong as its popularity does not end with that. The cute popular character has more to offer. It has always been on the news for one or the other explorations in the different industries. Considering the AVGC industry some of them are as follows:

Animated television series like Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale TheaterHello Kitty and FriendsThe Adventures of Hello Kitty & Friends, Kiss Hello Kitty and many more have sorted the life of  your little one at home. Besides all this, in August 2018, Sanrio began streaming a CGI animated series on YouTube featuring Hello Kitty talking to the camera about her life.

Hello Kitty also had two manga comics like Hello Kitty Doki and Hello Kitty Peace, which has created a buzz among fans. Lastly, in March 2016, Sanrio had also launched a web-comic featuring Hello Kitty as a strawberry-themed superhero called Ichigoman.

Hello Kitty games have been produced since the release of the first title for Famicom in 1992 such as Hello Kitty no HanabatakeHello Kitty World and others. However, the majority of these games were never released outside Japan. Hello Kitty also made cameo appearances in games featuring other Sanrio characters. Special edition consoles such as the Hello Kitty DreamcastHello Kitty Game Boy Pocket and Hello Kitty Crystal Xbox have also been released exclusively in Japan. These games under Nintendo Switch have been popular around the world.

‘Hello Kitty Dreamcast’

Hello Kitty has also appeared as a guest character in Sega’s Sonic Dash in 2016, as part of Sega’s partnership with Sanrio, and yet also appeared in Super Mario Maker as a Mystery Mushroom Costume that can be unlocked by playing the event course Hello Kitty & My Melody.

Apart from those, Hello Kitty mobile games have been very popular like Hello Kitty Jewel TownHello Kitty Lunch BoxHello Kitty Educational Game and many more. So next time you see a five-year-old messing around with her mom’s nail polish or trying to make her own sandwiches, I am sure your child must be influenced from mobile games like Hello Kitty Nail Salon or Hello Kitty Cafe. Recently, Swedish game studio Bublar Group AB and Sanrio have tied to develop an Augmented Reality (AR) mobile game around the adorable character.

Also in films like Hello Kitty: Cinderella and Hello Kitty no Oyayubi Hime, Hello Kitty have amazed the audience and thus Sanrio announced a full-length Hello Kitty theatrical feature for 2019.

Throughout the journey so far, the little girl Hello Kitty has been super busy with her exploration with time and trends. The journey from an aesthetic print on a coin purse to AR gaming has been spectacular. Clearly, Sanrio’s branding of the cuteness has made everyone obsessed with it. Thus, now that Hello Kitty is turning 44, all the fans are eagerly waiting what she will explore and bring up next. Until next birthday, keep purring, Kitty White!

Johnny Depp terminated from ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ franchise

Johnny Depp will no longer be playing the iconic character of the drunk pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, the role that he is popularly known for, in Pirates of Caribbean franchise.

In an interview with the DailyMailTV, original Pirates of the Caribbean scribe Stuart Beattie said that the franchise could be rebooted without Depp.

Grapevine has it that Disney is reportedly meeting with Deadpool’s writing duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen a script for a revamp of the Pirates of Caribbean.

Beattie added in the same interview, “I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It’s the only character he’s played five times, it’s the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it’s what he’ll be remembered for.”

Depp has had a rough personal life over the last few years. He suffered a high-profile split from Amber Heard in 2016 and was accused of domestic violence though he denied it.

He will be next seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Wolverine gets a smouldering super-power in ‘Return of Wolverine two’

Logan has made a come-back to the Marvel Universe, but this time he’s different with his latest power. Debuting this week, Return of Wolverine two finds a resurrected Logan embarking on a new journey with his new friend, to try and save her son from a mysterious evil organisation. However, Wolverine’s return hasn’t been sudden.

The build-up to the Return of Wolverine series took place over several months. With Hunt For Wolverine, an event that brought together heroes from all over the Marvel Universe to search for the famous X-Men hero, after it was revealed that his body was no longer in its grave. Many teams were unsuccessful in finding Logan, but they did find Soteira, the current foe that Wolverine is facing.

In Return of Wolverine one, we found Logan waking up in a camp, fighting for his life and completely unaware of who he is. Ana, a scientist who worked for the company, has told him a little of his past. He’s found a black Wolverine costume, but is still discovering his identity in the second issue which includes figuring out how his powers have changed.

Return of Wolverine two starts with Wolverine and Ana on a boat, tracking the Soteira soldiers in an effort to figure out what is going on and get Ana’s son back. They’re making headway, when their boat is attacked by more soldiers with superpowers. Although, Ana manages to take one down with a harpoon, Wolverine is left to battle the other who has a familiar face to Marvel fans. After some claw-on-claw action, he notices that something unexpected is happening – his claws are glowing red-hot.

They are so hot that he is able to pull a fuel line and ignite the petrol on fire with his claws, which then sets his enemy alight leaving Wolverine and Ana to catch up to the boat they are looking for- with Wolverine’s ability to track scent.

The new power does spruce up the combat quotient in our beloved mutant. Let’s see how things pan out after this striking development.
