Mighty Coconut Grows Animation Pipeline for ‘Kings of Atlantis’ With Shotgun Software

Mighty Coconut recently completed production on Kings of Atlantis an animated action-adventure series for children ages 6-12, co-produced with Omnia Media for YouTube Red. In nine months, Mighty Coconut was tasked with creating 13, 11-minute episodes, totaling over two hours of animated content. During production, the studio was able to ramp up from a team of 20 to 60 artists, and create 150 character assets, 30 environments, over 400 props, and 2306 shots. Because of the volume of work and tight deadlines, the team needed a strong infrastructure for project management, tracking and review.

Founded in 2014, Austin-based creative shop Mighty Coconut produces original and branded content for clients across the film, television and games industries. The full-service studio specializes in animation, as well as providing its clients with visual effects, motion graphics and VR content for long- and short-form projects.

Rather than hiring a software team to design a pipeline from the ground up, Mighty Coconut enlisted Shotgun because of its robust Pipeline Toolkit and project management capabilities. “For the most part, we had a pipeline right out of the box, which was appealing since we had to scale up so quickly,” said Executive Producer and Series Director, Timothy Cunningham.

For production on Kings of Atlantis, the team worked primarily in Autodesk Maya and The Foundry’s Nuke. Both tools can be fully integrated with Shotgun, providing artists with a working environment within their creative tool. “Being able to give an artist a task and have them open it directly from the Shotgun loader without needing to worry about asset naming, publishing, version control (and so on) was a huge benefit that saved our team time and streamlined the workflow,” noted Lucas Martell, Co-Founder. The Shotgun loader also enabled artists to quickly find their tasks and navigate to the latest versions without needing to search through various folders to find the most up-to-date shots or assets.

Mighty Coconut communicated internally and with their co-production partner Omnia Media in Los Angeles using Shotgun’s review tools, including playlist sharing, client sharing and annotated notes. “Being able to streamline the review process and have everything in a centralized location is of huge value.”

“We wouldn’t have been able to complete a project of this magnitude without the help of a robust pipeline facilitated with Shotgun. We’re continuing to develop our pipeline with new custom tools that integrate into Shotgun, and I feel confident that our infrastructure is fully equipped to handle future features and large-scale projects,” Cunningham concluded.

Baadshah Gaming steps closer to ‘click and mortar’ business model in the gaming space

Baadshah Gaming has announced a strategic partnership with Casino Pride with the latter acquiring in excess of 30 per cent stake in Baadshah Gaming’s holding company OceanKing Software Solutions. This collaboration is aimed at boosting the gaming portal’s agenda of venturing into live gaming operations and the launch of the ‘Baadshah Gaming Live’ property at Casino Pride, as a significant move towards operating a ‘click and mortar’ business model.

Baadshah Gaming has witnessed a significant growth of more than 200 per cent month-on-month since its inception with sign-up figures exceeding 300 per day within a quarter of its launch. With an aim to cater to a vast pool of gamers, Baadshah Gaming is revolutionizing its business model by entering into the live gaming arena to meet the demand and interests of the new age gaming enthusiasts.

Commenting on this occasion Baadshah Gaming co-founder and partner Madhav Gupta said, “We are pleased to announce our alliance with Casino Pride, one of the largest players in the gaming industry. With this partnership, we, at Baadshah Gaming aim to align with a strategic partner that brings on-board an industry experience relevant to its ever evolving and dynamic ecosystem. Our operations have gone live and we will be launching our first live tournament series from 21 September to 24 September at Casino Pride.”

He further added, “Our association with Casino Pride provides the Baadshah players the same level of credibility and fair gaming protocols that Casino Pride has been associated with over the last decade. It also gives them access to the live gaming operations to enhance the overall gaming experience.”

It is to be noted that the gaming laws are restricted state-wise and thus each state has to abide by its own laws in the vicinity. However, online poker can be played by any individual throughout the country except from two states: Assam and Odisha, because the gaming acts applicable to these states, the Assam Game and Betting Act 1970 and Orissa Prevention of Gaming Act 1955 do not create any exception for ‘games of skill.’ Thus, any game in which money is at stake, is barred according to the aforementioned acts. Skill-based games were made legal in Nagaland last year through a notification.

Now, according to All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) CEO Roland Landers, the organisation is currently in conversation with at least three states from southern India to move ahead and legalise skill based gaming; however he did not specify any names. The states have apparently studied the Goa model and are keen on applying the same and AIGF is helping them out on how to go about it.

Trailer analysis: The giant bulldog Lockjaw of Marvel’s Inhumans

ABC has dropped the first trailer of the TV series Inhumans, based on Marvel comics of the same name. We  analyse the trailer for you.

The trailer starts out on the moon which is apparently the place where the Royal Family of Inhumans reside. The Royal Family is headed by the often silent Black Bolt (played by Anson Mount) and his wildly-tressed queen, Medusa (Serinda Swan). After the Family is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii, where they are greeted with surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them. Now they must find a way to reunite with each other and return to their home before their way of life is destroyed forever.

First created back in 1965, the Inhumans are a group of altered beings who have, up until recently, lived in the city of Attilan on the moon. Due to Terrigen Mists, a mutagenic substance created during an ancient war, most members of the Royal Family have developed a wide and occasionally bewildering array of physical and mental powers far beyond that of normal human beings, like Black Bolt’s sonic scream which is so powerful that even a faint whisper can destroy everything in the immediate vicinity. Medusa can control and manipulate her hair while Gorgon’s (Eme Ikwuakor) powerful legs give him the ability to create destructive seismic waves by stomping.

The show will also feature Lost’s Ken Leung as Karnak- a master strategist and martial artist with the unique ability to detect the flaws in anything, Iwan Rheon as Black Bolt’s younger brother Maximus, Sonya Balmores as Auran- leader of the Inhuman Royal Guard, Isabelle Cornish as Medusa’s younger sister Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton- a being with an athletic and amphibious body, and Ellen Woglom.

The trailer also gives us the first look at Lockjaw- a giant superpowered bulldog and Black Bolt’s faithful pet. Lockjaw’s powers include communicating telepathically and capability of transporting himself and others anywhere in the world.

Inhumans is set to debut on IMAX screens on 1 September 2017 and run for two weeks, before premiering on ABC on 29 September and airing eight episodes. The series will replace Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD on the network’s fall schedule.

The series is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television, with IMAX Corporation as a financing partner and Scott Buck serving as showrunner. It is executive produced by Scott Buck, Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb and produced by Jean Higgins.

One Night In New York: Aaron Herrington & Brian Delatorre

New York is a cold-hearted bitch. She’s the prettiest girl you’ve ever laid eyes on that you know could break your heart at any moment. There’s a price to pay and it’s not just on the price tag. You wake up at war with the world and then the buzz of the battlefield rings around the clock. To skate through New York is one of the most exhilarating but exhausting experiences. Before you know it you’re too tired from skating to the spot to actually skate the spot. People are in your way everywhere and they all need something from you. The biggest police force in the country is out for you too. You gotta hustle just to exist in New York and excelling relies on the stars aligning. The most dramatic weather has trampled the urban jungle and it’s riddled with cracks, potholes, glass, rubbish and weather-beaten asphalt. The character of the city is undeniable but you gotta have just as much heart as The Big Apple itself to keep your head up. “There are so many cities out there with similar energy, but skating in NYC is amazing because of the people, the food, the energy, and the spots of course. It’s not always the easiest place to go skate and be productive, but just being on your skateboard, you get to see the city in a way normal people would not.” http://www.monsterchildren.com/60880/converse-one-night-in-new-york/
