Industry veteran Heather Walker has purchased traditional animation studio Yowza! Animation from founder Claude Chiasson. Yowza! Animation is an animation studio based in Toronto which was founded by Claude Chiasson in June 1996.
However after this acquisition, Walker will manage the business and related productions while Chiasson will continue to lead the creative side of team Yowza!
Yozwa! is known for its traditional style of hand drawn animation. Since 1996 it has delivered projects for various clients like DreamWorks, Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures and Nickelodeon.
The animation studios has worked on various franchises like The Little Mermaid, Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes and The Princess and the Frog.
The animation studio has a long standing reputation for having delivered both short film and feature film projects in the animation genre.
Walker has created a new space for the studio in an 8,000 sq. ft. facility. The new owner plans to sustain and build on Yowza’s heritage of classical hand-drawn animation along with its pipeline capacity for ToonBoom, Harmony and 3D projects.
Walker has worked as an executive producer and producer at various animation studios, including Nelvana, and has produced various broadcast projects for ABC, NBC, CBC and BBC.

Made against a production budget of $180 million, The Legend of Tarzan has earned just $64.86 million at the global office till date. The movie has earned $45.65 million domestically and $19.3 million at the foreign box office.
The movie opened in the US on 1 July, 2016 and had the privilege of the extended weekend due to the Independence Day holiday on Monday 4 July. Till Sunday 3 July, the movie had earned $38,5 at the US market. However, the Monday holiday didn’t prove that beneficial to boost its revenue as it just added another around $7 million.
Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow’s The Legend of Tarzan bowed at the second position in North America from 3,561 theatres.
Considering its competitors Disney’s Finding Dory has topped the list by earning $550 million globally. And therefore, this animated feature is at the first place at the US box office list.
The movie has also faced competition from Disney’s The BFG and Universal Pictures’ The Purge: Election Year. BFG has earned only $22.3 million while, Election Year has garnered $34.7 million domestically. So both these movies also have a long way to go in order to recover their production budgets.
But, the fact lies that Disney’s BFG and Warner Bros.’ The Legend of Tarzan are having a clash of pulling each other’s audience as both the films constitute of live-action animation and visual effects. Moreover, both the films are epic stories that are retold in a new avatar.
Comparing it to the animated feature named Tarzan created by Disney in 1999, the animated film collected $448 million worldwide back then. It was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures for a limited release on June 16, 1999 followed by a wide release on June 18, 1999.

Kickstarter has been almost a boon to video game developers and the fans alike. The crowd funding based platform provided the developers with the required financial backing for their projects, which in turn bestowed the fans with their much anticipated games and their sequels, making it a win-win situation for both.
But going by the recent reports of ICO Partners: a UK based market analysis firm, the cash that is being pledged for boosting video games have dropped sharply in comparison to the amount garnered last year.
The first half of the year being over, the firm reported that Kickstarter garnered an amount of only $8.2 million so far which is far inferior to last year. Last year saw an average total of $40 million. Thus, going by the figures of this year, it would be safe to say for now that this year cash pledge count is not even close to half of what was earlier.
The reasons for such a sharp decline could be many. One of that could be the lack of big gaming titles up for Kickstarter pledge this year, last year saw games like Yooka-Laylee and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night earning millions from fans. Shenmue 3 also accumulated $6 million from a campaign between 15 June and 15 July, 2015 but the disappearance of big names may be affecting the growth.
The advent of other platforms too can be cited as a reason for this sharp decline of Kickstarter. Psychonauts 2 garnered an average of $4 million from another platform called ‘Fig’, so did Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch which accumulated $445,000.
One more reason for this sharp decline may be linked to the results which fans received after putting in pledges. Mighty No 9 was the highest funded project at Kickstarter which was launched, earning $4 million followed by Pillars of Eternity at $3.9 million but it got several delays before its release and further on met with wide criticism.
These might collectively be the reason for the recent scenario or it may be just one of these or not at all. Kickstarter is still a good way to get game projects funded and we hope big titles come in to the picture soon. The developers must also be careful as what they promise and what they deliver. Let’s wait for the next half of the year and see the results.
