Susi Sie + CypherAudio : CYMATICS

Toronto’s CypherAudio is on another roll, tightly matching strong sound design to Susi Sie’s beautifully captured latest piece CYMATICS. “All scenes were filmed by using lycopodium powder, 50 Hz, a Canon 5D and a 100mm macro lens.”

Marc-Antoine Locatelli “Nuance”

French director Marc-Antoine Locatelli’s “Nuance” is an engrossing performance-based project worth checking out. Backed by track “Ants” (EdIT), dancer Lucas Boirat interacts with a mercurial light-based form that seems to be both a source of power and opposition. Although the project surely involved a fair bit of choreography, it feels playful and improvised. That’s a harder feat than it might appear.

Diddo: Ecce Animal

UK artist Diddo‘s latest commissioned project: Ecce Animal : a 12 x 18 x 22 cm skull of street sourced, compression molded Cocaine and Gelatin … challenging assumptions about human nature, specifically the tension between biology and society and how it defines our humanity.

“In order to prepare and analyze the purity of the accumulated ‘street’ Cocaine, I contacted pharmacists at a renowned laboratory.” Read more about the testing procedures and the lab results.

Once we were animals.
Like any other, we lived in an environment of fear and want.
Then, we became ‘human’ and aspired to be better.
We learned to control our environment but the fear stayed,
because we never learned to control ourselves.

It is frightening to look at the face of our animal side laid bare
by comfortable excess; the spoils of its aggression.

But what exactly is it about this image that is so confronting?
Is it this division in our idea of self?
Or is it a realization that though we have mastered the outside world,
we will always remain subservient to our inner selves.

Endtrip

Crazy short film from three recent grad students from the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU). “After many months of tough love and hard work we are happy to present our animation movie, “Endtrip”, to the world.” The film has already been officially selected for the KLIK! Amsterdam animation festival.

Endtrip is an animation short film in which we experience a breathtaking trip through the bizarre and fantastical unconsciousness of a drug overdosed girl. This visually stunning journey offers a stereoscopic 3D glimpse into the extraordinary and strange workings of the mind. Reality and fantasy become intertwined into a dream where nothing is as it seems and we can only expect the unexpected.

Royale + Echolab: Nike Tech Fleece

update: Audio by the always impressive Mr. Gavin Little, aka Echolab.

Check out the latest work from Nike Sportswear and long-time collaborator Royale, a digital design company with offices in Los Angeles and Seattle: Tech Fleece: “Inside the Innovation”

Royale’s incredibly detailed CG animation takes us on a fantastic voyage of the design and execution process of a hoodie, from threads being woven on a high-tech, circular-knit loom to its perfect fit on a person’s body. Nike Tech Fleece is a unique thermal fabrication that merges a smooth jersey with a synthetic spacer to create “Warmth Without Weight.”

“Nike wanted a piece that shows how an equal amount of technology goes into building its street wear as does its footwear,” said Brien Holman, ECD/Partner at Royale. “The actual process of creating such a lightweight fleece is what we wanted to focus on. We built a CG loom that would realistically spool hundreds of thousands of threads into one piece of fabric. The Tech Fleece Hoodie is constructed within this loom, giving extra attention to the elements that make it unique.”The spot is running online at sites such as YouTube and throughout Nike’s media channels, which include its retail store screens, outdoor media and Nike.com. Royale’s effort supports the launch of the Nike Tech Pack: Tech Fleece debut Fall/Holiday 2013 Collection, which is now available at Nike
Sportswear retailers and Nike.com. Tech Fleece evolves the fit, feel and function of Nike’s most iconic sportswear silhouettes—such as hoodies, crewnecks and zip-up sweaters—to the fabric.
