old TV show “Movie Magic”

I remember watching this show a long time ago. They showed all kinds of behind-the-scenes type things, it was great. Does anyone know where I can get a hold of these old episodes?(legally) I’m not sure what network it was on or anything.

Matchmove/Composite Car

Matchmove/composite Car v2.1 from Dashinuke on Vimeo.

An attempt at matchmoving and compositing a CG element into a filmed shot. Used Boujou for tracking, Maya mental ray for rendering. Compositing was done in After Effects, although I’m also learning nodebased compositing (Nuke) and I’ll switch over to Nuke later.

The filmed shot is terrible, it has some rolling shutter artifacts which clearly give it away at the end, but it was the best I had for this test.

I used a z-depth and a motion vector pass for post-motion blur, I tried to add a slight lightwrap, but I’m not 100% satisfied with that yet. And I’m not completely satisfied with the backside of the car. Hence it’s a WIP 😉

Any feedback is appreciated, about lightning and setting up the CG element in Maya, and specially about compositing, since I’m just getting started with compositing. I would like to know whats mostly giving it away that it’s fake, and improve my composite.

:thanks:

3D tracking device?

Hello everyone,

I have been think about this for a while now and wanted to get your thoughts on this:

Would it be possible to build some kind of device that you can strap to the camera and that records the full 3D motion of the camera?

I know that devices like the iphone contain an accelerometer that can record at least the rotation of the device, although I think the data of such a recording is not accurate enough for our purpose (for a 4k picture I think you would, depending on the lens, need a accuracy of 0.005 degree). But are there accelerometer like devices that are more accurate? Also is there something that can record the movement to a accuracylevel that would be useful?

On the other hand I think a rough 3D track of the shot (by that I mean a path that is not spot on, say for some 1-5% off, created by an iphone app or something you strap to the camera) could be very useful information for the starting point of the full spot on 3D tracking of the shot.

What is everyone thought on this? If it would be possible it would be a great tool!

Anxious to hear from you all!

Greetings!
Kasper

Animated Spot with ICE Particles

Hi,

This is my second animation with heavy use of Softimage’s ICE Particles (first one was this) . It’s a spot for a german advertising agency. (Werbenator – Die Agentur mit Biss; in english it means something like: Advernator – The Agency with Teeth)
This was a one man project with a time frame of 1 month.

The colors got kind of screwed by Youtube, but i hope you get the idea. 😉

Ubisoft counting on future of 3D Gaming

Ubisoft has become the first company to develop a mainstream game “James Cameron’s AVATAR” using 3D technology.

Can softwares handle this??

Hi to all..Im just attaching a image of a motion blur..Its actually three layers of motion blur with varying levels of alpha..Can any software handle these kinds of motion blur for rotoscoping..I tried getting this blur, but unfortunately the sample spread option in the motion blur settings is reducing the opacity of the original matte to provide opacity to the motion blur mattes…Can anyone tell me if any software has the capacity to do motion blur with different ranges of opacity for the motion blur…

hardware choice for FFF

I know that this topic has been discussed so many times but I could not something on the net that would settle my mind down.

My first choice:
Dell PowerEdge 6650 4 x Xeon 2.80 Ghz/16 GB DDR SDRAM 2x36GB SCSI RAID 2 *1000 LAN

My second choice:
IBM E-server Xseries 365 4 X procesoare Xeon 3000Mhz 8094Mb Ram, 109.2GB HDD, DVD Drive, FDD, NIC DualEthn, 4 x Num of CPU’s, 3 x O/B ethernet, SCSI Card, 3 x SCSI HD 36.4, 3 x USB Port, Rack, Black, W1

My third choice:
HP Proliant DL 580 G3 Xeon 4 X 3.0 Ghz/ 6GB DDR2 ECC/ 4 x 72 GB SCSI Raid/cd / Rack / Lan 10/1000

My fourth choice:
Hewlett Packard Workstation xw8400 – 2 X Xeon Dual Core 5160 – 3 GHz, SATA (Raid) RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10 – 4 GB Ram, 250 Gb HDD, Combo( DVD&CD-RW) drive, FDD, 10/100/1000 ethernet, SoundOnBoard, 8 x USB Port, 2 X Placa video profesionala Nvidia Qudro nvs285

I know that these are primarily designed to work as a server!!

My question is which will better run (or run at all!) any Autodesk software such as FFF.

Can you advise me on one of these choices or something else. The price difference among the above models are negligible.

Thank you in advance.
